Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region have received items and start up kits worth GHC100, 000.00 from the local Assembly to enhance their lots.
The items include; sewing machines, deep freezers, fridges, wheelchairs, milling machines, computers, laptops and cash.
Mr. Richard Collins Arku, North Tongu District Chief Executive said the support, which benefitted about 70 PWDs indicated government's commitment to improving the living conditions of PWDs.
He said the Assembly was working on training opportunities and acquisition of working tools to empower PWDs to be self-reliant.
“We will continue to support PWDs and their families by empowering them economically as well as sponsoring their children in school” Mr Arku added.
Mr Atsu Amedzo, President, PWDs, North Tongu, commended government for the support and appealed for increase in the financial package.
“Government must increase our percentage to enable others benefit from the programme” he pleaded.
