Voting is currently going “smoothly” at La-Bawaleshie in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency despite the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) decision to pull out of the contest.
According to NPP’s Constituency Secretary, Alhaji Issah Sawadogo, “the place is very calm now and voting is going on smoothly”.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Alhaji Issah said the NPP is not perturbed in the least by the NDC’s boycott.
“Maybe they are afraid they are going to lose the election. We are not worried, the processing is on-going and their members are also here voting peacefully,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.

A man was briefly arrested and released by officials believed to be working with the National Security at a polling center in Bawaleshie for allegedly taking pictures of the ongoing by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
The development, according to Peace FM’s reporters on the grounds, created chaos at the centre as voters argued over the seeming high-handedness of the security agency.
The by-election has been necessitated by the unfortunate demise of the MP for the area, Hon Emmanuel Agyarko.
Contestants
The seat is being keenly contested by the widow of the late MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan (NPP), Kwasi Delali Brempong (NDC), William Dowokpor (PPP), and Clement Boadi of the LPG.
Ahead of the by-election, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of bloating the electoral register by over 1,000 names.
But the EC described the allegations as “untrue”.
