A Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that investigations into fire outbreaks at most of the country�s public offices that occurred last year show the fires were caused by faulty electrical wiring.
According to him, a report from the technical committee set up to investigate the cause of recent fire outbreaks attributed them to electrical faults.
�The fire that gutted the Information, Foreign Affairs and Energy Ministries as well all as some other offices were as a result of electrical faults and could have been avoided,� he said.
Speaking to Citi FM, he said about 2 months ago, cabinet authorized that Public and National Strategic buildings should undergo re-wiring and routine maintenance.
�Most of these national assets built over 80 to 90 years ago have not undergone renovation work for a very long time�these pre-colonial structures and buildings are of great concern to the government� and the government would do all it can to preserve them,� he added.
On Sunday, February 14th, a blazing inferno which gutted the Ridge residences of ex-President Rawlings and his family completely razed down the whole building, destroying properties and personal effects of the former First couple.
