A leading Northern member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boniface Gambila, has told Citi News the late Hawa Yakubu would have been the best female politician to have partnered Nana Akufo-Addo for the 2012 general elections were she alive.
The former Upper East regional minister said there could not have been a better female partner for Nana Addo than the late former Bawku MP, who also served as a minister of tourism in the erstwhile Kufuor administration.
One thing is that showing interest is important Look at how Hawa Yakubu was pursuing things, she could move the party, she could move men and women everywhere, I worked with Hawa Yakubu since 1973, Gambila said.
A senior NPP member, J. H Mensah, had said he would not mind if Nana Addo chose a woman as his running mate. Another strong NPP woman, Ursula Owusu, had earlier told Citi News the spotlight would have fallen on the Iron Lady if she were alive.
She said since Yakubu is not available, Nana Addo should choose a woman who has expressed interest.
I know her [Hawa] capabilities so if I see that kind of woman from the North, if it means hanging myself for the woman to be running mate Id do it.
