Vice-Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stormed the Tamale base of Chief Sofo Azorka, leader of the popular Azorka boys and Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday, May 4th.
He visited the Azorka boys base in Tamale during a mini-tour of Tamale His unannounced visit took him to the Aboabo Market and its environs. He also met with various top members of the NPP and several youth groups in the metropolis.
Dr. Bawumia met the absence of Chief Sofo Azorka but was warmly welcomed by the Azorka boys with some taking turns to exchange pleasantries with the renowned economist.
According to him, his visit to the Azorka boys base was to �prove his constant opinion that the focus of our competition should be with other countries and less with ourselves and his call for politics to be conducted with the focus on the Nation, Ghana�.
Dr. Bawumia however met with Chief Sofo Azorka the next day after he joined in the burial rites held for the late Paramount Chief of Sangulu, Uborr Dalafu Labal II at Sangulu near Saboba in the Northern Region.
The late Paramount chief was the only Traditional Ruler member of the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC).
Chief Azorka was part of the delegation from the NDC which included the Northern Regional Minister, Moses Bukari Mabengba at the funeral. The NPP sent a high-powered delegation led by Dr. Bawumia and other party bigwigs including the MP for Okere, Dan Botwe; a leading member of the NPP in the Northern Region, Bugri Naaba; a former Northern Regional Minister, Ben Bukari; former Local Government Minister, Charles Bintim, amongst others.
