Leaders of various Zongo Communities in the Ashanti Region have held a prayer and Quran recital session to pray for the New Patriotic Party Presidential ticket of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and also for the peace and unity of the nation as the nation approaches the December general elections.
The event which was led by the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam Abdul, Mumin Haroun was graced by former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who prayed with his fellow Muslims at the event held at the Kumasi Central Mosque.
Speaking to the over 500 Imams and leaders of the various zongo communities in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia thanked the Imams and Zongos for the support they had given him so far with their prayers and pieces of advice which had helped him greatly in the past few months since his nomination as Running Mate.
Dr. Bawumia, who spoke in Hausa said; I cannot overstate the level of support I have received from you, our Imams and leaders of the Zongos since I was appointed again as Running Mate earlier this year and though I know I cannot thank you enough, please always realize that I am most grateful to you for everything you have done for me; all the prayers and all the pieces of advice without which our journey would have been very painful. Once again, you have demonstrated your support for me and our course today as you have all turned up to pray and share your pieces of advice with us and I am most grateful once again.
As we get even closer to the elections and even beyond, I kindly request that you continue to extend your support and continue to pray for me.ďż˝
Dr. Bawumia took the opportunity to explain to the gathering, made up of District Imams in the Ashanti Region and leaders of the Zongos, the plans of the next Akufo-Addo administration to make life better for the ordinary Ghanaian and the Zongo communities particularly.
Touching on the Free Secondary education pledge of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia noted that education was the great equalizer and that by eliminating monetary considerations in education at the secondary level, all Ghanaians without respect to ones background would have the opportunity of receiving an appreciable level of education which would not only relieve the burden on parents and families but enrich lives and ensure that the future generation can gain decent livelihoods.
On the Zongo Development Fund, Dr. Bawumia stressed that it was very necessary for direct interventions in solving the basic problems that affect the many inner city communities across the country. He said that the NPP on assumption of office would institute the Zongo Development Fund as part of its first budget to immediately begin tackling the amenity problems in the Zongos.
A ram was sacrificed to seek the blessings of Allah on the prayers said at the event.
