The Progressive People's Party as part of its definite purpose to beef up its support base, on Saturday September 21, 2013 organized a workshop for its members and executives in the Central Region.
The workshop which was held in Elmina was attended by the 2012 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, National Executives, Regional Executives, Constituency Chairmen and former Parliamentary Candidates in the Central Region.
The central region meeting was the first in the series of regional meetings to be organized by the partys national officers to discuss grassroots organization and educate members on the partys position on a number of national issues.
The Director of Operations of the party, Nana Ofori Owusu clearly stated that the party has discontinued the printing of t-shirts for its members. Members were encouraged to wear the Red & White colours of the party for meetings and other party programmes. He said the time had come for the party to do things differently from other political parties and desist from using material things to win votes or political power.
The National Treasurer, Mr. Felix Ograh, advised party folks to demonstrate commitment and make sacrifices by paying their GHC 1 monthly dues to help support the activities of the party. He said, "it is by this practice that we can call ourselves ardent members of the party and become stakeholders of the party.
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2012 Presidential Candidate, addressing the members, also stressed on the need for Constituency Executives to as a matter of urgency start polling station organization and recruit more people into the party. He further stated that the PPP did not come for just one campaign year but has come stay, unlike some political parties that have had their flames distinguished after just one election campaign. He suggested that even though the party was born in 2012 it was able to beat other existing parties by becoming the third largest political party and the second biggest opposition party in Ghana. "We beat those we came to meet on the political scene, demonstrating our seriousness and sense of purpose", he said. He advised party executives and former Parliamentary Candidates not to wait till 2016 but start a vigorous campaign now so that they can get more people to vote for them.
The party indicated it will complete constituency elections by November, 2013, Regional elections by December, 2013 and hold its National Convention by March, 2014.
Also present at the meeting were the Regional Chairman, Mr. Edu Ansah, Regional Vice Chairman, Godfred Kwasi Athur Yarkwa, the Regional Organizer, Mr. Kwame Quayson, the Regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Kwadwo Aduamoah, the Chairman of Parliamentary Group, Mr. Prince Okyere and the Youth Coordinator, Mr. Divine Nkrumah.
