Angry National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth within the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region are calling for the immediate resignation of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Samuel Oppong, over allegations of corruption levelled against him and other members of the Agona West Assembly.

The youth in a press statement jointly signed by their spokespersons, Kofi Eduah of Agona Nkum; Kojo Kum, Agona Bobikuma and Kobena Quansah, Agona Nyarkrom, pointed out that the MCE is presiding over a corrupt assembly, enriching himself overnight at the expense of residents within the area.

According to the youth, “There are a lot of ‘chop chop’ and corruption within the assembly under the full watch of Samuel Oppong without doing anything about it.”

They signalled in the statement that “it is been alleged that Samuel Oppong has built three mansions in Tema, Swedru and Nyarkrom within his term of office as the MCE.”

They added that “…we have been reliably informed that Hon Oppong owns two filling stations, a cold store and building a school complex in Kasoa for himself.”

They are, therefore, demanding urgent answers from the MCE over the accusations levelled against him, failure to do so which they say he must resign.

“We demand to know whether or not these allegations are true? And if they are, where and how is he funding these huge and expensive projects? they queried.

Their worry is that the ‘corrupt’ conducts of the MCE could cause the Mahama-led administration ‘adorned’ with several ‘corrupt’ folks, the 2016 general elections.

According to them, “It is our sole aim to win the Agona West seat for both President Mahama and Hon Charles Obeng Inkoom. However, we have been observing and reliably informed that some NDC gurus, including the MCE, Samuel Oppong are working against our MP underground.”

The NDC Agona West youth are, therefore, demanding among other things, a full disclosure about how much it actually cost the assembly to fence the Swedru traditional cemetery.
