Claims by Fiifi Kwetey, the Minister of Transport that drug money that flowed freely in Ghana masked an extremely ailing economy under former President John Kufuor, are “baseless”, “useless”, and “unfounded”, Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has said.
Speaking during the NDC’s ‘Setting the Records Straight’ forum in Accra on Thursday September 22, Mr Kwetey said: “Growth expectations are high, currency stability has returned, inflation looks set to trend downwards to sustainable basis, fiscal deficit is increasingly more under control, domestic and foreign investor confidence is increasing more and more and our latest information is actually showing that even the credit rating agencies are about to do a positive revision of Ghana’s rating again because the future absolutely is looking very bright under the very competent leadership of John Mahama.”
Comparing that with the term of the NPP with Mr Kufuor as President, Mr Kwetey said in 2008 when the NPP was finishing its term, it had “lost control of the cedi, inflation had reached 18%, gross reserves barely enough to cover two months of imports, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ghana Commercial Bank were on their knees, nonperforming loans in the banking sector were at an all-time high,” with a budget deficit of 15% and a budget overrun of 11% and a “massive” arrears of over GHS4 billion altogether painted the picture of an economy that was gravely ill, yet this was an economy where cocaine cash was flowing very freely”.
But reacting to these comments in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday September 23, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said: “He (Fiifi Kwetey) is not someone to pay heed to. He was the same person who accused President Kufuor of stealing Ghana’s gold bars at the Bank of Ghana but when he was asked to produce the evidence during his vetting as Deputy Minister after the 2008 elections, he told the Appointments Committee of Parliament that he did not say that and that he was commenting on a newspaper publication.”
“So when this person speaks, should we listen to him? Ghana deserves better and we need to engage in more productive activities. What is the evidence that the NPP government got money from cocaine trade? Several people have been arrested under the NDC administration in connection with cocaine. Does that mean the government is engaged in cocaine? Under this government someone was arrested for possession of cocaine while a Ghana High Commission official vehicle was waiting at the airport for her. And so, who is actually sponsoring the cocaine business?
“But, for me, I will not say because an individual has been arrested under the NDC administration, it was President Mahama who was behind it. It will be baseless and unfounded on my part to say that as Fiifi Kwetey is trumpeting. This is a useless, unfounded, and baseless comment that should not be entertained at all.”

For I can not fathom what the fuss is about and for this Fifi Kwettey ; I do not understand why rational people bother to listen to his propaganda anybody listening to him as the so economist will realise is just vulture with no place to sleep ; the has had had no audience in his field of his study of economics; thinking about it can any body explain to me what difference is between somebody who peddles cocaine and some who deliberately goes out to still ; lies and deceives a whole nation about development projects which cannot be accounted for in terms of accurate expenditure made on these so called projects ; to me the inflating of contracts and diversion of funds into private pockets have the same results as each other ; the evidence been both NPP and NDC because to me no political capital can be made out of such irrelevant view by Fifi Kwettey ;both activity are to the detriment of all Ghanaians but the worse been the current stilling and diversion of state funds into the pockets of Jon Mahama ; FiFi Kwettey and cronies of the NDc ; FiFi Kwettey to me should rather concentrate on issues about how the economy can be well managed but not taking cocaine as an issue that the Ghanaian voter is intrested to didscuss ; as Ghanaians we need somebody to help us untangle the economic mess which smells like a cessipit full of faeces -COPME FIFI KWETTEY DISCUSS ECONOMIC ISSUES NOT PROPAGANDA !!!!!!!!besides look at how you have messed up the Agric Ministry and now at the Transport Mionistry to still !!!!!!!Ayigbe/ewe Thiffman and a latrineman for that matter .!!!!!!!!!

If there is no need to respond to fifi quatey then what is the need to respond to Bawumia?. In the NPP s rule that Bawumia was part, they have to print new currency to much the dollar of which our economy is buying and selling, sell Gh. telecom to pay salaries, construct shoddy roads, sells portions of the port to their cronies, sell uncompleted affordable housing, we were told they have their businesses and cars already but we saw what they be quit to themselves during their rule.
In the first place why should this Togolese refugee called Fifi feel shy using his Togolese name FIFI instead of FIIFI, associated with Fantes?. Yes Fifi is an Ewe name from Togo and he should not be shy of his refugee status. My point is that NDC has season economists, but they all sat aloof allowed this blocked headed refugee to always comes on air with his abusive and childish propaganda economics to counter Dr Bawumia. His so called setting the records straight was an achieved propaganda document which he has chew and always pour during every elections season. I heard the other saying he scored 1 in his GCE O Level economics, and that made him an economist. Yet dummies like Aseidu Nketsia and his likes continue to praise and clapped like the North Koreans
fiifi kweetey please remember suhini head of security at ghana airport and naa ayele the 12.5 kg of cocaine woman who passed thru mahamas vvip at kotoka airport and the countless cocaine stories thru the last 8 years.
I don't understand why NPP should be responding to this Togolese ***barred word***. The Togolese ***barred word*** has not responded to a single statement Dr Bawumia made. This ***barred word***, during his setting the records straight, only repeated an achieved propaganda document he is perfected in reciting, since 2006. The Togolese ***barred word*** setting records straight strategy is irrelevant in today's politics. What do you folks get straight from this ***barred word***, the usual cocaine, corruption and attacks on old man Kuffuor , who's thinking about himself now
