The Electoral Commission of Ghana has disqualified thirteen presidential aspirants from contesting the 2016 elections.
Akwasi Addae Odike; United Progressive Party (UPP), Hassan Ayariga; All People's Congress (APC), Edward Mahama; People's National Convention (PNC), Agyenim Boateng Kakraba and Kofi Apaloo; Independent People's Party (IPP) have been disqualified.
Others are Ward Brew; Democratic People's Party (DPP), Akua Donkor; Ghana Freedom Party(GFP), Henry Lartey; Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Richard Tetteh, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings; National Democratic Party (NDP), Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Kwame Asiedu Walker and Kwabena Adjei have also been disqualified.
According to Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the EC, the Presidential candidates did not meet the criteria for filing as president.
This means only four candidates will be contesting this year's election: Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Independent Candidate and Jacob Osei Yeboah.

Ayariga and akua donkor's disqualification is good news for our electoral process. we want serious ple and not comedians. a little bit surprised with PPP, PNC and NDP.

Dr Nduom and Edward Mahama's disqualifications a big surprise, the rest- no wonder. Good work done from the EC. You earned my respect. Well done EC!
