General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) Atik Mahama says he is not a "magician" to have foreseen that some of the people who subscribed to the nomination form of the party's flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama also endorsed other aspirants.
Dr. Edward Mahama was disqualified by Electoral Commission from contesting the Presidential race.
The Commission stated did not accept Dr. Mahama's form due to reasons that "many subscribers did not properly sign the forms. Thumbprints, signatures or marks were omitted all together. For instance; no signatures on Page 16, 24, 28. Two subscribers to Dr. Mahama’s nominations also subscribed for another presidential candidate."
The EC Boss further indicated that the Commission will "refer the matter of the possible forgeries of these signatures to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General for investigation and prosecution" under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Following the EC's decision, the party's General Secretary has been blamed for failing to conduct due diligence in the filing of the form to the Electoral Commission.
But responding to his critics, Atik Mohammed wondered how they expected him to oversee all the mistakes by the subscribers to avert double endorsements.
According to him, he and other leaders of the party worked days and nights to ensure that their candidate makes it to the list of qualified Presidential aspirants for the 2016 elections.
"My due diligence should have been that I should run all the subscribers against all other candidates to distinguish them; how was I supposed to do that? What saddens me is that these are individuals who were not even involved in this process. Everybody who matters came, I mean they put their shoulders to the wheel. We worked day and night…”
He however assured the party faithfuls that the party leadership will not hesitate to pursue their matter in the law court.
"We’ve written to them officially that we want to have a meeting with them to explain the issues. But depending on the outcome of that meeting, the PNC will not hesitate to head the direction of the court.”
Atik Mohammed argued that the omission of signatures, thumbprints and so forth including the double subscribers or endorsements were an oversight on the part of the party.
To him, the EC could have spared them the disqualification if the Commission had read the forms when they presented it to them.
He explained that the Commission would have noticed the mistakes and drew their attention to them to be corrected.
“It is not as if the Electoral Commission is some separate entity whose work that we want to reduce the number of participants in our democratic process. They are supposed to be partners in this process. To the extent that our candidate does not possess dual citizenship, to the extent that it’s not like there were not individuals to endorse his form or to subscribe to his nomination; I do not think the Electoral Commission should have been this high-handed in giving the kind of verdict they gave," he said.

Iiiddiotic !! Yes, you are not a magician to see everything but when it is about the Prez, you suddenly become an angel, prophet, a rocket scientist and an oracle to detect every mistake of the Prez. Atik remove the specks from your eyes in PNC before seeing clearly to remove that of others. That is how world is. Man must be measured in whatever he does or says. Because of arrogance, pride and indecorous behavior, you have caused the disqualification of your presidential candidate and his running mate. This should be a lesson to you as a young man. Yes !! you may insult the elderly and go Scott free today but tomorrow awaits you. Very sad your Party will not take part in this year's elections. Maybe you can pick up the pieces together again and see what you can do with them the next opportune time. Sorry ma bro.
you see how ***barred word*** you are , u sit on radio and spew garbage everyday , common laid down procedures you cant follow, understanding of the question they say is part of the exam . now you are saying you are not a magician , simple thing like due process u failed .

I can't even laugh. This is what we are faced with in Ghana today. Whiles the sitting president is trying very hard to move this country forward we have people the likes of Atik spewing invective s on radio every morning. Your time is up Atik.
I know this guy very well he is an NPP mole occupying a high position in PNC. What goes around comes around.
I have now come to believe that most of these guys that sit on radio are a bunch of uselesssss clowns deceiving the public. Simple forms you couldn't fill even with a guide. But you sit on radio and say someone is incompetent. The whole world have seen what you are made off.
You see your smoothness level now,you are not a magician but the president is a magician you sit on radio and insult and castigate everything MAHAMA just for your LINKING NOSE,KALYPO OLD MAN,because of NOKO FIOO
you guys don't understand Atik.I stand to be corrected but i do remembered that in 2012, Atik on a campaign platform told PNC Supporters to vote for the NPP with the excuse that Ayariga was doing things he deemed not good.if he is now in the position to influence decision, what do you think he will do? i blamed the PNC for voting an NPP member as their General secretary.he did it intentionally guys
This stoupid drunkard that call himself Atik....you sit on radio dimwitting and calling people names.comon forms you cant fill.....gyimi gyimi
Yeah! and you sit on radio to call the president incompetent in everything?? Did you expect him to be a magician to be able to foresee everything?? Tone down small my brother and sometimes let us feel you are humble, reasonable and most of all like-able. Don't always sound that arrogantly negative when you talk about the president. You personalize your attacks so much so that many of us get irritated. You don't sound cultured at all. I am just wondering if the president had committed this blunder, what you would've said. This is a hard lesson but sure a good one for a big mouth like you. Don't know what use your party should have for you after failing this primary assignment. You should cease to represent them and maybe you could join the NPP if you so wish. You have always sounded like a capitalist although your party seem to have socialistic roots. I have never heard you constructively suggest any solutions to any problem at all. You just criticize arrogantly.
