Efforts at preventing ugly election-related clashes in the country, had received added momentum as women take centre stage in the campaign to get everybody to uphold the peace.
Through the Women Situation Room-Ghana (WSR-Ghana), many of them are being trained to engage - deepen the conversation with the youth and the political parties to reject violence.
One of such training programmes, has been held in Koforidua and brought together 40 participants drawn from across the nation.
Ms. Adwoa Bame, National Coordinator of the WSR-Ghana, said the goal was to help all to be tolerant and avoid doing anything to endanger the peace, unity and stability of the society.
It was going to establish what she labeled “regional hubs”, which would alert its “Situation Room” in Accra of any activity that could threaten the peace for prompt response to stop things from exploding.
She said the “Situation Room” would be set up four days to the polls and would be operating 24 hours to assist keep the nation calm and united.
Ms. Bame said a group of revered Ghanaian women would be gathered to engage the leadership of any organization or individual, whose actions were unhelpful to the peace during the elections and where necessary talk to the right state institutions to act appropriately to ensure peace.
The WSR-Ghana is made up of representatives of various women groups – the security services and civil society organizations.
