We would like to react to a story which the above caption in the General News segment of GhanaWeb, Friday, October 28, 2016, which was attributed to Starrfmonline, com, and to set the records straight.
First, Togbe did not make an “address” during Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Volta Region House of Chiefs on Friday, Ocotber 28. Togbe only welcomed him to the House and thanked him for coming.
Second, Togbe addressed a gathering when Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him earlier in the morning at the Asogli palace.
In his address, Togbe made no reference to “bad economic policies”, neither did he mention any political party during his speech.
The relevant portions of Togbe’s address are as follows:
“I want to present the reality of the black man’s world, from Haiti to the Horn of Africa.”
“I also want to express my respect for the constitutional requirement that
chiefs should not engage in partisan politics. But that does not preclude chiefs from commenting on issues that affect them and their subjects.
Politicians come and go, but the chief remains and is the first point of call when their subjects suffer poverty and deprivation.”
“Development is important …” “Happiness is the essence, and it is important for unity, peace, stability and for continuing development. So without guaranteeing the freedom to pursue happiness, no nation can develop to its full potential.”
“This is why the pursuit of happiness is recognized under the American constitution as an inalienable right given to all human beings by the Creator, and which governments are formed to protect. This is also why the United Arab Emirates has established a Ministry of Happiness and appointed a Minister of Happiness.”
“Poor people can’t be happy. People who lack jobs and basic amenities cannot be happy. The increase in suicide rate among 20-40 year olds evidences the fact that a lot of our people are not happy. The fact that our people prefer xenophobic isolation abroad, and are dying trying to cross the desert and the sea in search for greener pastures, shows that they are not happy at home.”
“So as leaders, our energies should be directed at wealth creation. I haven’t said poverty reduction. That’s negative and uninspiring. We should create wealth so that we can pull our people out of poverty, so that they can be happy, value their lives, and live unity and peace, which are necessary conditions for continuing stability and development.”
“I believe we can do it. Yes, we can! But turning our fortunes around would require that we do things differently. More of the same approach will not produce different results.”
“We can do it if we develop a bold, compelling vision, based on our strengths. Mediocrity and snail-paced development will keep us backward……..”
Signed:
Secretary, Asogli State Council

NDC PLS RESPECT THE PEOPLE OF VOLTA REGION, WE ARE NOT ***barred word***.
npp will always be exposed, but i wonder why peacefmonline will project thier work. they know they have lost this elections
Nii Amor, please let us stop fueling this tribal issues. Just imagining if all Akans vote for one party. I'm schooling you today. Fantes, Akuapim, Bono, Akyem are all Akans. There's is a section of Akans in the Northern part of Volta. Nii, if you really attended school, don't forget that, you had FORMAL EDUCATION. You're therefore not a Literate. Please, you can do your politics without tribal. My mother is from Sweduro and my father is from Kpando, so Nii, tell me! Which tribe do I belong to? If you can't say anything positive, don't show your abysmal level of intelligence.
About 18 million people have registered to vote come December 7. More than half of these people are illiterates. More than half of the literates do not have access to the Internet. More than 50% of them also live in rural areas. With these segmented population, our needs and interests are also different. Whereas those of us who have access to the internet think that growth of the economy is our measure of good performance, others think that good roads and access to potable water, clinics and schools are their indicators of good governance and performance. It baffles me, therefore, when people sit around their corner and make such ***barred word*** predictions that one party is winning and not the other. They make up all the numbers, just as I just did, and come making noises into our ears. People should just mind their business, decide who they want to vote for and stop disturbing our ears and hearts. We need the serenity of the air space to think about much more important things than who becomes president. Watch it, the perception of corruption would not reduce if any of the presidential candidates wins the elections. They would still construct roads using the same US$ value, if not even with increased cost. They would do exactly the same thing that this current government is doing and simply brag with it. So what is the difference?
To the Togbe of Asogli is one of the enlightened Chiefs in Ghana who have always advocated progress in the Volta region ; he has good initiative and have believed in creating wealth for his people by various business initiatives ; mine problem with the Togbe is that for years he has not been forthright in telling the NDC about their poor mis -management of the economy ;especially when the Woyome case erupted ; may be this is because for the whole of the Volta region they had this misconception that the NDC party was an EWE party and thus the party was set up to develop the Volta region -WRONG !!!!!!!because it was founded by JJ Rawlings ; the question that Togbe and Ewe people should ask themselves is for the years that JJ Rawlings and the NDC were in power what productive projects did they initiate for that region because the opportunities were in the Volta region vast land and rivers for such development initiatives; lets compare that to Jon Mahama's position today ; the has diverted most of the resources to the Western region and the Northern region besides the worse thing is that what most Ewes do not know is that Jon Mahama as a person hates ewes and GAS and have no love lust with Koku Anyidoho from the Volta region and have never trusted EWES ; today look at how the faceless inner circle of the NDC are treating JJ Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu ; what most people in the NDC do not realise is that without JJ Rawlings NDC would never have come into existence ; today even JJ Rawlings is quiet and no more respected in the party and have been side-lined by Asiedu Nketia ; although Togbe cannot force his people to go and vote ; he should let the realities of the mis -management ; stilling and dissipation of funds be known by his people for them to make up their mind who to vote for in the next elections
The chief has spoken.Question is who cares what Ghanaian chiefs say or do not say. Most of our chiefs are low down low lives with no conscience.Did you see the Adoagyiri chief in full regalia standing on an NDC platform campaigning whiles the worthless ,us3less Mahama looked on like the dumb sheep that he is?Mahama has done more harm than any living soul to this republic. We will get rid of this kleptomaniac one way or the other and all those chiefs taking SUVs and cash can say what they want. Each dumb ***barred word*** has one vote.
Excellent speech by Togbe. God richly bless you and increase you in wisdom. The truth must be told.
THIS ELECTION IS OBVIOUS: IT WILL BE TRIBAL. UNTIL THE NPP SHED THEIR AKANISATION THEY SHOULD SAY BYE BYE TO THE SEAT.HAS ANYBODY OBSERVE THE QUIETNESS OF GAS IN THIS YEAR ELECTION? GAS ARE PEACEFUL & CONSIDERATE. IF ANY OF THE CANDIDATES SHOWS ANY SIGN OF THESE ATTRIBUTES, TRUST ME HE WILL GET OUR VOTES.
IF THINK YOU CAN LIE YOUR WAY TO POWER, IT SHALL NEVER HAPPENED.DO YOU REMEMBER THE KIND GESTURE THE PREZ SHOW THE LITTLE CRYING GIRL? THAT ACT ALONE HAS REACH HEAVEN. PERIOD.
Togbe has spoken and let those who have ears listen well well. What we have at present that has already sent us backwards is mediocrity and snail pace development by Prez Mahama and the Ndc administration. All economic indicators are worse off than they were in 2009. How can a govt bring such unbearable hardships to it's citizens? I am certain majority of Ghanaians can't bear this any longer and are just waiting for 7th December to vote Prez. Mahama and the Ndc out. Thank you Togbe and may the Almighty continue to grant you wisdom.
