Pro-opposition pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), has served notice that they will resist any attempt by the police to prevent them monitoring the election after they cast their ballot come December 7.
According to LMVCA, no law under the constitution and the CI 94 which regulates elections 2016, prohibits people from standing outside the perimeter erected at the polling station to monitor the elections.
The Head of Police Election Taskforce, Chief Supt. Benjamin Agordzor has indicated that his outfit will deal ruthlessly with persons who mass up at the various polling station as it has the potential of creating confusion.
“There’s no need for anyone to stand at the polling station from morning till evening after voting. There’s no law that proscribes this action, but it causes problems on election day. If you finish voting, go home and when its 5 pm, come back and witness the counting.”
He added: “If everyone decides to stand at the polling station after voting, then that will be a recipe for confusion. Those political parties telling their supporters to stay over don’t know what they are doing. They are not patriotic enough, they want to create confusion but we the security agencies are saying that we’re not going to allow that. Our patrol team will be around, and we’re going to drive people away from that place, once you’ve voted and have nothing to do, you must move away from the polling station.”
But the Convenor of the Let My Vote Count Alliance, David Asante in an interview on Neat FM took strong exception to the comments by the police, saying the police will not be allowed to introduce their own set of new electoral laws.
“After voting, don’t leave the polling station…stand there and protect the ballot. Let the police fire and kill us, we’ll stand there at the polling station. We won’t interfere with the electoral process, we won’t get into the enclave where the voting is taking place. But if the police will arm themselves and kill people at the police station on election day, then we are ready for them.”
He continued: “The IGP and other police commanders will not introduce new electoral laws in this country, that will not work. We’ll strictly abide by the dictates of the constitution and CI 94, and if this will lead to the police firing us on the day of election then so be it.,” David Asante fumed.

These are the guys the British and USA ambassadors must watch carefully.
Charley these are the same guys whose defiant mob action led to one buddy loosing his eyes, hope they learn from it.... what will surely happen dat day no one knows ... just be careful guys, after voting leave the polling center until it time to count ballots after five in the evening. Each poling station has at least two or more security personnel as well as polling agents, you guys are not to take over their jobs, they are professionals trained to do their jobs and YOU cannot do their jobs that's why u are not put in there..simple...so stay away fro the greater good of everybody.
its funny when people try to generalise things when actually it isn't so. Is he sure he would be able to stand at the forefront when the trouble start? He shouldn't f00l himself if he wants to die he should do so alone. I only pity his wife and children if even he has some.
YES GHANABA ADWOA, YOU DESERVE HIS INSULTS BECAUSE THIS GUY SEES VOTING BEYOND DECEMBER 7. HE LOOKS AT HIS FUTURE - JOBS, HEALTH, ETC...... AND IF HE CONCLUDES THAT HE COULD LIVE IN HIS OWN COUNTRY AS A SLAVE UNDER A CORRUPT REGIME THE OPTION LEFT IS TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT THING. THOSE WHO BENEFIT UNDER CORRUPT REGIMES, DONT CARE - LEFT TO THEM, THE OLD ORDER MUST REMAIN. MAY BE GHANABA MAY NOT HAVE THE CHANCE TO LIVE TO SEE SOMEBODY BURIED......THINK TWICE...
What do you think idi*ot?? That the ordinary civilian is scared of you armed robbers in black uniforms..?? The people will not be intimidated by your black uniforms and armored vehicles!! We will respond to any threats and intimidation with the full force of our collective strength! We ain't scared even of the military! Not to talk of u corr*upt personnel.
Nobody can tell the public where to be after voting if they are not disturbing the process. What is this lawlessness that is gradually eating into Ghana,s public institutions? If the police thinks that they have the arms and so they will use it to intimidate innocent Ghanaians during this election, then they should come again. I will be the first person to call on the police to deal ruthlessly with any group of people who will disturb the elections and cause problems. But to say you will deal ruthlessly with innocent bystanders near or close to the polling stations is irresponsibility of the highest order, and the earlier the police revised their notes the better. they should not take the power of the people for granted. They should remember what happened in Turkey recently. My advice to the police is that they should professionally discharge their duties to the citizens. Governments will come and go but the police is there to serve the people irrespective of which government is in power.
haha , a guy gave me NPP flyer this morning at shiashie junction n he said '' YE B3 BO BALLOT BOX NO HO BAI. HWE3, Y3BE WU ADA HO'' AND I TOLD HIM OH, I DONT NEED THE FLYER BUT I WILL BE THERE FOR HIS BURIAL. AND HE INSULTED ME. HAHAHAH ASEM OO
Conventional wisdom should tell this asante boy that Ghana is not for NPP and because Akuffo addo want to be president you are encouraging people to die.
I THOUGHT THE POLICE ARE TO BE NEUTRAL. HOW CAN AGORDZOR SET NEW RULES FOR ELECTIONS IN GHANA? IF THE POLICE AFTER THEIR DENTED IMAGE WANT TO FLOUT THE FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS OF GHANAIANS BY ATTACKING BYSTANDERS AT A POLLING STATIONS WHO HAVE NOT PROVOKED ANYONE THEN I CANT THINK FAR. THE POLICE ARE NOT LAW MAKERS AND SHOULD ABIDE BY THEIR STIPULATED DUTIES. IT SEEMS THE GHANA POLICE HAS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM. THE IGP THREATENS TO BLOCK SOCIAL MEDIA ON ELECTION DAY AND THE HEAD OF TASK FORCE THREATENS TO SHOOT AT VOTERS? THEN THE NEXT THREAT WILL BE TO BURN GHANA. PLEASE, LEARN TO BE PROFESSIONALS!!!!!!!!!!
Why say 'we'? Go alone. Everyone has a name. No one will die for a politician.
