A former Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has described as ridiculous calls by the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) on the incoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to restore teacher trainee allowances within its first 100 days in office.
Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Thursday 15 December, the president of the coalition, King Ali Awudu, said teachers voted for the NPP to restore the allowances and believed in the party’s capacity to do so within the first three months of assuming office.
“In the process of their campaign they said a whole lot of things, which we bought into and voted for them massively. One of the key things they used was the teacher training allowance. They told us emphatically that they were going to restore the teacher training allowance. At the time that they were telling us that they would restore the allowance, the outgoing government, led by John Dramani Mahama, was also telling us that if it is the teacher training allowance that he needs to restore in order to gain power then he will lose it, and indeed he has lost it. So what it means is that we have voted for the NPP massively. If you monitored the polls you would realise that in almost all the 38 teacher training colleges, the NPP won. So what we are saying is that as soon as they resume office from 7 January, at least within 100 days, we should see the restoration of the teacher training allowance,” he said.
In a quick reaction on the same show, Mr Jumah said it was unfair on the part of the coalition to give the NPP an ultimatum.
“Nana Akufo-Addo made a promise and it spans four years …but to put a gun to his head and give him an ultimatum of 100 days, that is what is ridiculous… If they know how to give ultimatums, I think that they should redirect their ultimatum to the previous government,” he stated.
The former CEO of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) explained: “No government can act without first going through parliament for financial support. They (NPP) have to put up a budget. A budget basically is an outline of what we intend to do and we present it to parliament. Parliament will have to go through and approve it then you can begin to execute what your plans are.”
He added: “I was expecting enlightened people to suggest that we expect Nana Akufo-Addo to put together a budget that will guide his administration so that he will be able to implement some of the things that he said he would do and that would have been a more enlightened approach, but the way they are stating it, they look like a bunch of ignoramuses: they don’t know anything, they are ignorant people. It’s even unfair for them to come out like that.”

What he is trying to say is simple, they will restore it , it can be within the first 100days or more than that.. things are goibg to be alright . You must bare in mind, Maxwell is not the president or the vice president.. that statement is his thought tho
ignoramus you say,I think it's rather ignoramus on the part of you to make such ignoramus statement. ADVISE TO NANA ADDO: this is the type of people he should avoid in his administration
what a talk, hmmm, four years is just at the corner
This governance for you ... Ghanaians need no excuse you just have deliver upon your promises.... trainees allowances, 1 district 1 factory, 1 district 1 million dollars, free secondary school education... all of that ... reduction of almost all the taxes paid in ghana... eeeeiiii.:. You paved your through.... well pave your through without excuses .... discerning Ghanaians are waiting... you have four years to do all of these... we are humbly waiting
If you are thinking of four years to restore the allowance, remember most of these students teachers who claim voted for you might have completed without having to benefit from it.
Oyiwa There we go. People will soon regret voting Mahama out.
Do you think those teacher trainees and nursing trainees voted for you to come and wait for four years to restore their allowances. You must be joking. The dkm customers can't wait for monies to hit their account. Ghanaians can't wait for four years to have monies in their pockets. You don't make promises when you don't even know what is in the consolidated funds. When you were making all these promises you should have told them you can't do it in few months but you could possible do it in your four year term, then people would bear with you. But to say as soon as you come you would restore these things and insult those reminding of your promises is quite unfortunate.
I'm waiting. We can't see Mahama kind of president again. We lost it!!
so Kofi, now that your party is in power after several promises, you think there are procedures to follow, yooo, DKM customers are waiting.
I am so glad for the unprintable words used by the man on the teacher trainees and the nurses for demanding the payment of the restoration of the alowances .NDC wants to put you on the SSNIT Trust loan as well as to expand the schools for more enrollment.you say no and claimed because of that you voted Mahama out.Wait and don't border our ears with your problems. We want the free SHS next academic year than your so called allowances
