Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has urged senior party members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take a back seat and allow new faces to join the incoming government led by President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo.
Intense lobbying started few days after the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei on December 9, declared Nana Akufo Addo as winner of the December 7 elections, with names of prominent members of the party popping up to occupy various ministerial positions.
A list of very qualified individuals especially those who served in the erstwhile Kufour government from 2001 to 2008 have come up again for positions in government.
The pressure on President-elect Akufo-Addo led to him asking for more time on Thursday during a National Executive Committee (NEC) to enable him name ministers ahead of his official swearing-in.
He’s expected to present the list of his proposed ministers to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP for review.
Commenting on the matter on Joy FM’s News File show, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako stated that senior party members should rather go in for ambassadorial appointments.
“The old guards most of them should take a rest, they should go for ambassadorial positions and the rest. More fresh faces and limbs, I’m not talking necessarily young but some young ones must be brought on board, but I think the old guards…they’ve done well, they’ve helped Nana to achieve this victory. They should not be in the inner circles, it’s in their own interest.“

Nana, sure there may be 'more' than you need. But always remember there were 'chaffs' in Kuffour's govt. We dont need them to run you down. There is also very competent 'materials',tap them up. But never forget, it is Nana's name that is at stake. Any '***barred word***' move will have dare consequencies to the advantage of ,the watch n see'.HOLY SPIRIT, please, help Nana to succeed for the battle is the LORD'S.
Will new faces revamp the economy? What we need now is competence. People who can deliver and not new faces. If new comers are competent, fair enough, but we don't want Babies With Sharp Teeth in our government.
kufuor used these guys and what did they do? they were voted out of power because of the bad state of the economy and other corrupt practices, asamoah boateng awarded Ghana government contract to his wife!

I strongly agree with Mr. Baako, is true we need experience but competent personnel are available that can be more effective and efficient. then the good old guards take-up advisory roles. In this modern age, I don't think Ambassadorial roles should be used as ex-gratia for those retiring. But I am hoping for a new facelift where Ambassadors are given KPIs that they need to deliver.
