President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a 30-member Planning Committee to spearhead activities toward the country’s 60th anniversary.
The Committee which would be chaired by Ken Amankwah has representatives from strategic state institutions including the army and police service.
Outdooring members of the anniversary committee at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, 26 January, Mr Akufo-Addo said;
"The celebration of our 60th anniversary should be modest, it should take into account our financial circumstances but it also should be elegant and appropriate, we should live in a good feeling about ourselves.”
He added that "On such an occasion, it is fitting and proper that the nation recognises and commemorates the work of some of its citizens – those who have distinguished themselves, those who have contributed to bringing us to where we are today, and a fitting honour accorded to those to whom honour is due.
“No matter the diversity of opinions and the diversity of origins, we are all fully paid-up members of the Ghana project and these celebrations should advance that sense of unity and oneness among us.
“So I have decided that we should have the Planning Committee to begin work today, 26th of January, towards the anniversary, which is some six or seven weeks away, a very short period of time.”
Among the terms of reference given them by the President include working out activities for the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the country.
March 6, 2017 will mark the 60th Anniversary of Ghana's independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
The members include;

So where are the akomeas and co who claim to be competent that nana addo is not working with anyone of them. Why is he using these toothless babies. Does he want to succeed.
We will scrutinize every pin spent on Ghana at 60. Be citizens not spectators, quote by George ***barred word*** stolen by nana addo without recognition.
THIS IS ***barred word***
waste.GHANA @ 50 millions went waste. Portable drinking water, better classrooms, etc are needed. Politicians same they never LEARN. Elect them & they flash money down the drain.Do they UNDERSTAND poverty? They don't!
I hear they are working pro bono. They will not be paid. Or?
Frankly although I backed Nana Addo to come and change things and protect our finances ; it seems Nana Addo is falling into the old TRAP of job for the boys and relatives again ; to me very SAD !!!!!!!; to me there is nothing in a number 60 years ; it just a number besides it is just like somebody saying I am sixty years but the question is MR GHANA WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED IN LIFE ; and what has MR Ghana achieved over this period !!!!!!!;To be BRUTAL NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT ; For ANY BODY between the Ages of 50 to 80 years who claim to be the custodians of steering this coountry HAVE LET GHANA DOWN BADLY !!!!!!; Nana Addo tells us the celebration should be elegant and appropriate ; WHAT A LOAD OF POLITICAL GEBRISH CRAB !!!!!!!; how can a celebration be elegant and appropriate because everything COST MONEY !!!! ; Is this a chance for Nana Addos cronies to CHOP; CHOP !!!! because Nana Addo should not forget that we the people accused Jon Mahama of the NDC of 'NOKOFIO' besides Nana Addo have just told us that Jon Mahama and the NDc left the economy in tatters but does not tell us how ;besidesalthough not broke can be repaired ; Nana Addo should be careful about his utterances about our spending patterns because the TRUTH is that our finances is in a bad state with huge interest to service our debts ; as his relative the finance minister Offori-Atta said our financial priorities must change to get value for money ; mine suggestion would not be an elegant celebration but a modest celebration to show our investors that we are serious to control our finances and not to spend on misplaced prioties on celebrations by buying gold chains like in the Kuffour period and watches for ctizenery who have contributed nothing to the country as stated above but have rather helped leaders llike JJ Rawlings ; Jon Mahama and Kuffour to rape and still from Ghanaians over the years ; besides how about Nana Adddo comming out to tell Ghanaians that due to our circumtances we shall forgo all bonus in both government organisations and rather use the money to start building TOILETS and proper Sewegage treament systems .
This ***barred word*** must stop. Please lets get to the business of the nation and stop wasting time and resources on celebrations. We did not vote for you to continue with this kind of leadership of a child. Buying toys and playing all the time. Ghana@40, Ghana@50, Ghana@60 etc. Why??? I am disappointed. Even this inauguration should not have been done by the president. Ah!!!!!Why!!!!NO work to do?
Nana Addo pls we r begining to be disappointed already. This is unimportant. What is this konom tee for. Absolute ***barred word***. No need lets just give every body water after the program and save money small wai Nana. This will breed corruption.
I trust and believe this list full of competent people more especially, Jefferson Sackey, with his rich experience in International Journalism, Film Making and Global Branding, Ghana will go places after this celebration.
create ,loot and share Government. Incompetent Government. Plagiarism right from day one to stupendous Ministers and now to a 30 member committee . Ghanaians will Know that you lied to them
