Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament Joe Osei-Owusu has said he will proceed to the court next Tuesday to prove his innocence in the bribery scandal that has rocked his committee.
According to him, he has never given any money to be given to the minority caucus on the committee, as has been alleged by the Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.
The former Sports minister has alleged that Energy minister Boakye Agyarko attempted to bribe members of the minority caucus, through the chairman of the committee, in order to be approved by the appointments committee following his vetting.
He said GHC3000 was given to each member through the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, who had received the money from the chairman of the committee.
But speaking on the Starr Midday News Saturday, the Bekwai MP said he has not given any money to anybody to be given to the minority.
“As I have said already, I have not given any money to anybody to be given to anyone. I have not met or spoken to Muntaka over any money, either from Boakye Agyarko or from anyone. I’m not open to money discussions of such nature, I have never been and will never be,” he said.
He noted “ I will make a general statement on the floor and then on Tuesday proceed to the court to clear my name in this matter legally; and that’s what I will do”.
Meanwhile, the Bawku Central MP has insisted the incident took place and he is ready to stand by his claim anywhere.

HON BOAKYE AGYARKO IS IN TO SERVE NOT TO TRADE... WAT IS THE LOGIC BEHIND THIS WHOLE BRIBERY SCANDAL NDC SHOULD GIVE MOTHER GHANA A BREAK....AAH.. CHEAP POLITICS.. PROFESSIONALS DEY TALK AAA YOU SAY BUGAMBUGAM... MADA KURA
Not sure who to believe, either one side is telling the truth or the other has a plan to make sure the people who are determined to work and get it right are made to stumble and fumble in court issues with accusations hanging around their neck and their integrity at stake. If there is some truth in this, then our president shld be quick to lease them to serve as a warning to all others. But we wish you the best.
If you know you are innocent go to court and get your accuser jailed but it it is true resign immediately to save the name of the government. The truth can not be suppressed.....
GHANAIANS AWAITING FOR ANAS TO DO INVESTIGATIONS ON CORRUPTION IN PARLIAMENT BEFORE THEY BELIEVE THERE IS NO HEAVEN OF AN INSTITUTION IN GHANA. WHY DO MOST PROFESSIONALS QUIT THEIR JOBS AND GO INTO POLITICS AND PARLIAMENT. WE ARE TIRED OF THIS MIS-PRACTICED SYSTEM OF RULE CALLED DEMOCRACY
Please let's learn to stop sweeping issues under the carpet. I am not here to say Boakye Agyarko gave money (bribe) for him to be endorsed as the Energy minister. Please remember it is a common issue to observe people in Ghana giving sums or gifts as a way of saying 'thank you' for work done. Do you know such gifts are equally bribes? Is it possible that was what Boakye Agyarko did? I don't think Mahama Ayariga will just make such allegations in vacuum without any substance. Moreover elsewhere Joe Osei-Wusu would have to resign as the Chairperson of the vetting committee. Muntaka isn't a credible person from the look of things. Remember he has been caught up in many of such allegations. Again, there have been many such allegations in the parliament in the past, and the problem has always been substantiating the allegations with evidence. We have to wake up, and face the fact that bribery, graft are part and parcel of the Ghanaian bureaucracy. We're never a perfect society when it comes to bribery and corruption.
Which court? Was the judge at the scene when the bribe was given? Don't hide behind legality to shield your corrupt practices in parliament. Why don't you send Martin Amidu also to court for the same allegation? Courts can defend and clear your name today but posterity will judge all. Was it not these same courts that were reported jailing somebody wrongfully for 15yrs? Court indeed. Who doesn't know these MPs?
Muntaka has cleared his name; he's sworn by Allah that he has not given any money to Ayariga. So Ayariga must go and provery otherwise in court. Evil plan by NDC.
Dont display your ignorance of the law, the immunity can be lifted go and ask Uncle Dan Abodakpi.
I fully support him. this the beauty of democracy. I think my Ayariga should be giving a chance to proof his case under oath. It's good for our young democracy. This will end the argument.
This is mostly a very very dirty NDC issue between Ayarig and Muntaka with Ayaraga being the one who must prove his claims of be punished severely.
