Following Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's accusation that the NDC government was to spend US$13million on the former’s edifice, it has emerged that no such monies were approved by the erstwhile Mahama government.
Close sources to the former Vice President Amissah Arthur's office and subsequently confirmed by former senior officers at National Security have indicated that President Mahama's government only approved a little over US$5million for the project.
The whopping amount of $13million being thrown about remains a proposal from the Architectural Engineering Services Limited (AESL) and reliable information suggests the previous government questioned the justification for the price variation on account of which no such payments were effected.
While speaking at the Action Chapel Good Corporate Governance Initiative earlier, Dr. Bawumia had indicated that the $13million was disclosed as the amount owed the contractor who was assigned to undertake the project.
The Vice President who was upset with the revelation questioned the alleged decision by the NDC government.
“I asked; how much is this house actually costing and I was shocked when I was told. Can you believe in Ghana we are building a house to house our Vice President, and this house is supposed to cost 13.9 million dollars?”
“I mean what sort of a house is this supposed to be? Is the gate made of gold? The pavement of gold?
The blocks of gold? A house in Ghana for 13.9 million dollars? I could not believe it.

The vice president is right with the figure.I used not to believe in the Veep but no i do. the amout is 13.9 USD. the jounalists should do a good job and inform ghanaians
A project at one of the top state organizations estimated at USD3.8million was nearly awarded to a contractor for USD11million to execute, had the head of that institution not been vigilant and strong to his conviction of not allowing anybody to do the wrong thing. He fought the Mahama administration so much on this contract, specifically the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Joyce Bawa Mugtari. When the head of the organization refused to allow them to steeaaall the money they threatened him with termination of his appointment which he said he was ready to be sacked instead of allowing them to steeeal the money from the state. Of course Julius Debra was unable to execute his threat because NDC lost the elections. There are several of these projects that have been seriously inflated and most unbiased people in Ghana know it. I can assure Ghanaians that the USD13.5 million is in the books but less than 20% would go to the contractor. That is the mark and legacy of John Mahama. He started steeeealing the state's money when he was the vice president and continues on a grand scale when he became president and had the whole turf to himself, family and friends.
...@Nana Kawame, wll said but he cannot be misinformed, that mounts to tarnishing his credibility, being factual is the best...he got to be sure of what he says in public otherwise it's going to discredit himself...he is still doing an amateur politics....the clocking is tick and so he must assist in fixing the problems and stop the politics...do you see the president has focused in finding lasting solutions and the vice president seem to be struggling...the talks and lectures and the un-announced visits will not help...that should be left to the ministers...
@Nanakwaku pls we weee here when babyjets house costed 3 million his not even an assembly man. So think of it if you say 5 million is too huge for veep house
Mr Bawumia please is time to work and all these tours and another campaign platform full of lies is totally not important now!!!!!!, get to work veep
Assuming the veep was misinformed, is it not alarming to have a house built in Ghana to cost $5million? The person coming out with this information thinking he or she is to shame the veep should be ashamed. A house in Ghana costing 5 million dollars? People were shot for less. Is the pavement going to be made of diamond?
@Atac. ...abi you are the intelligent person so explain to every one
Bawumia did not lie. If you could not understand what he said, ask a more intelligent person to explain to you.
