Following Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's accusation that the NDC government was to spend US$13million on the former’s edifice, it has emerged that no such monies were approved by the erstwhile Mahama government.
Close sources to the former Vice President Amissah Arthur's office and subsequently confirmed by former senior officers at National Security have indicated that President Mahama's government only approved a little over US$5million for the project.
The whopping amount of $13million being thrown about remains a proposal from the Architectural Engineering Services Limited (AESL) and reliable information suggests the previous government questioned the justification for the price variation on account of which no such payments were effected.
While speaking at the Action Chapel Good Corporate Governance Initiative earlier, Dr. Bawumia had indicated that the $13million was disclosed as the amount owed the contractor who was assigned to undertake the project.
The Vice President who was upset with the revelation questioned the alleged decision by the NDC government.
“I asked; how much is this house actually costing and I was shocked when I was told. Can you believe in Ghana we are building a house to house our Vice President, and this house is supposed to cost 13.9 million dollars?”
“I mean what sort of a house is this supposed to be? Is the gate made of gold? The pavement of gold?
The blocks of gold? A house in Ghana for 13.9 million dollars? I could not believe it.

Bawumia enough of the political lectures. Pls u dnt ve to do this. Get ur minister to do d checking for u. Campaign is over pls.
Massa; this is simple case of throwing figures around to appease rumour mongers ; Dr Bawumia is the Vice President ; to me he should call all documentations ;contracts payments relating to the this building and ask questions because expenditure on the project is still on going ; why have have the project stalled and how much has the government paid to date ; to me DR Bawumia need not get involve in this speculation of figures ; just get the facts and like all the projects executed by the NDC and Jon Mahama just conduct an independent forensic audit on all these projects and where there is no value for money and projects have been over budgeted just bring in the 'DONALD TRUP TREATMENT AND THEORY 'IT IS A BAD DEAL !!!!!!! AND STOP THE PROJECT ; STOP PAYMENTS AND GET THE CONTRACTORS TO GO AND COLLECT THEIR ADVANCE PERCENTAGES FROM THE THESE NDC KROOKS because what happens is that most contractor pay up front the commissions to their political masters with the hope the balance will be paid ; the contractors then go to Banks to borrow heavily and use the monies to either pay polticians but when they are found out or the monies are delayed they are unable to pay the Bank and interest rises on the loans ; they the go BANKRUPT ; there are loads of cases like that with contractors TODAY !!!!!! ; everybody is a contractor in Ghana TODAY !!!!!!!
If it is not so, how much did the NDC pay? they should come out with the figure.
You approved for a little over $5 million for the house, the people constructing the house says it 13 million. The final discussion is will you pay 5 or 13 million.
Can you imagine yourselves.Such a case is worth mentioning & you guys sit there & say Bawumia should get to work. What about these don't you understand is working. Or don't you know that to continue from where one left off the other needs to understand the system and ask questions. I think you who think the man is not working by saying this should exactly define his work for him. He has not been in office for a long time but see the discovery and it does not overwhelm you to actually find the truth about the case but you quickly want to shove it aside just as culprits will do. As for some of us we want to move forward not on lies concerning the finances of a country that our taxes are funding. So we urge more revelations like this so as to prevent others from continuing or taking place. For once people should agree with what is right, in so doing they can also feel guilty in involving in such wrongdoings
People like to fight and cannot even comprehend english. Did he say the Mahama government have PAID 13 million? He said the project is delayed, and the contractor has said the house is to COST 13 million. This is not different from what this SO called source is saying. That the contractor did indeed present a bill for 13 million. But they have only PAID 5 million, so the work has stopped. So desperate to politicize everything that you miss the entire point. That anyway you slice it, a sole sourced contract for a multimillion dollar house in accra here is utter ***barred word***!
Even if its the 5M Dollars isn't it too much, how many residential homes in Ghana cost even 5M Dollars. NDC why, why dont you guys have ghana at heart, why were st.e.aling all over the place. Why. You will stay in opposition for a very very long time.
so what stop the dr from calling for the contract documents to verify rather than relying on hear say and engaging in the act of misinforming people. is it to win public sympathy? God help us
veep is telling what is the case, take or leave it. you ndc guys can go to hell
Where is the lie in Bawumia's statement? He said the contractor is owed that amount. He never said government paid USD 13m.
