The Member of Parliament for Bodi constituency and a member of the Appointments Committee in Parliament, Sampson Ahi says the Minority has rejected the Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba for recommendation to the plenary.
“There is a general consensus for us in the Minority not to support Otiko because of her posturing before the committee and her response to some questions that were asked her during vetting yesterday. Off-course her approval will be by the majority when it comes to the floor for consideration,” Mr. Ahi told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Wednesday.
The MP said they will register their position for the public to know why the nominee was rejected by the minority members on the committee.
Gender Minister-designate Otiko Afisa Djaba who faced the vetting committee yesterday was in the news for several controversial issues that popped up at vetting Tuesday.
Her refusal to apologise to former President John Dramani Mahama for some “distasteful” comment she made against her prior to the 2016 election is undoubtedly one of the topical issues that might have dimmed her chances to be supported by the NDC minority side on the committee.
She’s reported to have upheld her earlier comments that Mr. John Mahama was “Wicked” and an “embarrassment” due to his inability to develop the three Northern country where he comes from.

I side with Otiko, mahama was a royal without cloth. Ghanaians heavily voted him out because they realised he was a ***barred word*** (wicked, callous and incompetent)yet you want people to come and say he was good leader. Even when he is taken you into opposition you still are lieing to him about his competence. You guys will lead this man to his grave as you did to Atta mills
This is pathetic! What at all is the essence of the vetting? Very pathetic!!!
Who cares whether u approve or don't. U ask baseless and irrelevant questions and she gladly returned the favour. Why are u crying wolf? Have u guys apologised to the president for the many unsavoury comments u made towards his person? No! So what gives u the moral impudence to demand an apology from her? Are u guys serious? This ahi guy irritates me so much I can't stand the sight of him. Otiko meant what she said during the campaign season and that's her prerogative and no one can force her to retract from her convictions. By the way, is that the place to even address this issue? Ain't the vetting supposed to be about one's competence? See, these morons in ndc takes every serious business to the gutters. Everything they do isn't to the betterment of the country but for their own cheap gains and to score uuuse.less political points. They will never grow out of propaganda. It's deep rooted in them . They can't stop and that's why they remain in opposition for a very long time. I hope the current leader will be hesitant in cracking the whips of any imbecilities. Discipline must be instilled in people who refuse to do right. All the mischievousness must be stopped right in their tracks before they get out of hands. Ayariga and his cohorts should be made a scapegoat if the committee finds there was no bribe given.
NDC members of parliament owe their loyalty to Mahama and not Ghana. I presume Mahama will apologise to Nana Akuffo-Addo for his insults to his person. NDC will stay in opposition for many many years. They hate the truth.
Otiko doesn't need consent of NDC to get approved. NDC members on the appointments committee are only interested in paying back nominees who said something against John Mahama during the electioneering campaign. Even Oti Bless was approved for a deputy minister. Are we interested in the nominees' abilities and what they will do at the various ministries or we are interested in playing politics? No one needs to bribe the minority to get confirmed or approved. 170 against 105 in parliament....... this is first time we have such a tsunami in Ghana, and the NPP should utilize their majority very well and ensure that they push through the president's agenda for nation building. I am happy that Otiko did not allow the NDC bullies on the committee to bully her at the vetting.
the minority can't stop her from becoming a minister. they can't either forced her to do otherwise of her conviction because of a post. did any of them asked her to apologize during the campaign time? chick of it....
my question. is the vetting meant to assess the ability of the nominee to hold and execute the mandate of the ministry or a place for personal vendettas? if you ask personal questions you should expect personal answers. such infantile questions by the minority members. they can go and burn the sea. even the incompetent ones among them were passed by their members when they had the majority in parliament. nansins!!!!!
IS IT NOT A FACT THAT JOHN MAHAMA IS A WICKED PERSON? CAN JOHN MAHAMA POINT TO ONE THING USEFUL HE DID TO THE PEOPLE OF THE NORTH DURING HIE TENURE IN OFFICE FOR THE PAST EIGHT YEARS?HE HAS TRULLY EMBARASSED THE PEOPLE OF THR NORTH. LOOK AT SUBA, JEEDA, AND THE REST. THIS WAS THE REASON WHY THE PEOPLE OF THE NORTH REJECTED HIM.MAHAMAS PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WAS POOR.HE SHOULD LEARN TO LOVE AND HAVE SYMPATHY FOR HUMAN BEINGS.
