Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency, Rashid Pelpuo, says Otiko Djaba, the Minister-nominee for the Gender, Women and Social Protection Ministry, would have to apologize for her comments against former President John Mahama, before she is considered for approval. Ms. Djaba is on record to have directed at Mr. Mahama words considered insults by some members of the Minority in Parliament, and Mr. Pelpuo believes such conduct is not befitting of someone looking to head the Gender Ministry.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday before Ms. Djaba’s approval was put on hold, the MP said he was amazed by her posture during her vetting, which he said depicted a lack of humility and compassion. “My surprise is that, she is coming to occupy a ministry that demands a lot of compassion. She is going to occupy a ministry that demands a lot of humility, but she did not show any of these things when she was confronted with the question of insulting a former President. In our tradition, you don’t look in the face of the elderly and say; you are stupid, your head is big and you are evil; Nobody does that in our tradition.” Mr. Pelpuo explained that, Ms. Djaba would be expected to relate with the vulnerable sections of society and “for these areas the person occupying them would have to show that she can forgive.” She should also show that she can draw people together and can also demonstrate that they can show humility “but she did not show an inkling of humility, respect for elders and a demonstration that she can bring people together.”
Otiko must withdraw everything Mr. Pelpuo further suggested that, Ms. Djaba should withdraw her comments in the media, and use the same medium to apologize to Mr. Mahama and the people of Ghana. “If she has the opportunity, she should withdraw everything she said because the whole of the county was watching her, the psyche of the young people who were watching her was pricked negatively and I think that it has to be repaired.” “Mr. Speaker, because she did not reflect the kind of person who should occupy that position, I want to reflect that we suspend her approval and bring it up at a later time… she should go to the same media she went to insult the president and tell the people of Ghana that the position she is occupying does not merit the utterances she made,” an adamant Mr. Pelpuo stated.
I don’t owe Mahama an apology
The Gender Minister Nominee has already refused to withdraw her comments made against Mr. Mahama. Speaking during her vetting Ms. Djaba said she owes the former President no apology for her comments. Queried by some of the Minority members on the panel for describing the former president as “wicked, evil and someone with a heart of the devil,” Ms. Djaba said she spoke out of conviction and would not apologize or withdraw her comments.
Parliament approves Dan Botwe, 4 others; Otiko put on hold Meanwhile Parliament today [Friday], approved the nomination of five additional ministerial nominees to serve in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. The House, after about 2 hours of debate on the third report of the Appointments Committee for the approval on the nominees, passed five out of the six nominees to serve in their respective ministerial portfolios. The nominees are John Peter Amewu (Lands and Natural resources), Ignatius Baffuor Awuah (Employment and Labour relations), Samuel Atta Akyea (Works and Housing), and Dan Botwe (Regional reorganization and Development), and Anthony Akoto Osei (Monitoring and Evaluation). The approval of the minister nominee for Gender, Women and Social protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, was however put on hold over challenges raised by the minority side of the vetting committee. Aside the issues of her temperament and attitude raised by the minority, they are also rejecting her nomination on grounds that she did not undertake the mandatory national service, something she confessed to during her vetting. The Speaker of Parliament has set Tuesday February 7, 2017, for the House to vote on Otiko Djaba’s approval, since the House is unable to reach a consensus following the minority’s rejection.

Apologize to who? she won't today and tomorrow! But I can bet you that she will be approved "live and colored"
She wont apologize today or tomorrow. She will be approved by the House and will continue to serve as a Minister for mother Ghana. Have your cohorts babies with sharp teeth apologized to the founder of the party you are making your living out of. If she sees ex President Mamhama as evil and you do not see it must she agree with you? Kick off and get out. These NDC guys are behaving as if Ghana is for them. Have they been able to justify all their actions, words, insults?
If not EVIL and WICKED, than someone should give me the right words to describe a government who refused to pay the suffering teachers and nurses allowance, spending the tax payers money in the name of planting trees that never existed and spending the nations money to rear guinea fowls that reportedly flew out of the country? If not wicked and evil man then what other words can be used?? Otiko all the way.
Honorable Rashid Pelpuo, were any of the questions you put to the minister designate pertinent to her administrative skills to deliver as a minister? What was the nature of questions the NDC elected members of the vetting board put that elicited the responses Lady Otiko Afisa Djaba poured out damning the sickening, criminal performances of the defeated ejected NDC immediate President of the Republic of Ghana. Would any of you NDC elements choose to gloss over and cover up the exposure Lady Otiko Afisa Djaba pitted into the face of the Ghana populace of Mr. Dramani Mahama's unacceptable errors? Plotted abuses of corruption and malfeasance that offend all decency? Would you want to hear some of these ills publicly now poured out to confront Mr Mhahama who would not hesitate, for who and what he is, lie to deny what cannot ever be hid? And would you for such errors that offend even the health of the country's economy begrudge Lady Otiko Afisa Djaba the honor of her singular performance of success, according to some of us, at the vetting examination? You give us a cause to wonder the worth of your value as law makers for our dear country. We are meticulously recording events as and when they pan out, all must note.
Massa; What is the matter with these Northners -Kwaraaa !!!!!!;they cannot even see the utter disgrace that this Jon Mahama has brought unto people from the north they have teamed themselves into maggots waiting to lay waste a corpse but let Ghanaians tell them that Otiko Djaba is not a corpse neither is she a ***barred word*** like Jon Mahama a Krook and a latrine boy from the north ; there is no way Otiko Djaba will apologise to this northner Jon Mahama because Otiko knows his brother as a wicked and an unwise man with the taste for womens backside ; Jon Mahama is a uless man a thiff and krooked northner who came to still and wreck Ghana ; how can you compare Otiko's backround to misfits like Ablakwa ; Haruna; and Rashid and all these NDC jaguar jokers ; Otiko can speak five languages has experience all over the place ; WHAT EXPERIENCE HAS THESE NDC MAGGOTS GOT IN THEIR LIFES -NOTHING !!!!!; if these fulls are waiting for Otiko to apologise they will be waiting for a long time !!!!!!!YET .
Oh God listen to that man. What makes these Ghanaian MPs who have the easiest job in the world, paying themselves undeserving political ex-gratia, people who the more they think the more innocent souls become poorer, think they are still making sense to some of us. The difference b/n knowledge and wisdom is truly big. These Ndc lows mind still have the power to share their opinions. if we disagreed with Otiko's campaign you we would voted against Mahama? I will never like Otiko again if she apologizes to this .........
I WATCHED THE VETTING OF OTIKO WITH MUCH INTEREST. I NOTICED THAT IN VETTING OF OTIKO OKODJATO ABLAKWA RESORTED TO CASTING INSINUATION AND BEING INSULTING. AFTER AN ANSWER BY OTIKO, FOR INSTANCE ABLAKWA REMARKED "I LEAVE TO GHANIANS TO JUDGE THE TYPE OF PERSON NOMINATED TO BECOME A MINISTER. HE SUBSEQUENTLY USED UNPALATABLE WORDS DIRECTED TO REFLECT THE NOMINEE. NOBODY IN THE PANEL SAW ANYTHING WRONG ABOUT THE ATTITUDE OF ABLAKWA AS IF HE HAD THE LICENCEE TO INSULT BECAUSE HE IS IN THE VETTING COMMITTEE. I WAS VERY DELIGHTED WHEN OTIKO RESPONDED THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BABIES WITH SHARP TEETH AS WE STRUGGLE TO DEVELOP OUR DEMOCRACY AND NATION. HARUNA WHO HAD SEEN NOTHING WRONG WITH ABLAKWA INSINUATION IMMEDIATELY INTERVENED TO FIND FAULT WITH EXPRESSION BABY WITH SHARP TEETH. IN FACT HARUNA WOULD HAVE BEEN RIGHT IF HE HAD DEMANDED FOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THAT QUOTE. UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE OF HIS OWN HISTORY AND EXPERIENCE WITH PLAGIARISM IT WAS HARD FOR HIM TO GO TO THAT DIRECTION. NOW ON THE ISSUE RAISED BY RASHID, HE MUST KNOW THAT GHANA IS NOT RULED BY ANY DYSFUNCTIONAL LAW THAT SUPPRESSED THE FREE EXPRESSION OF WOMEN OR ANY INDIVIDUAL. THE CONSTITUTION REQUIRED THE RESPECT OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL WHO IS ENTITLED TO HIS OR HER OPINION. I THINK IF OTIKO HAD VIOLATED ANY LAW THE OPPOSITION MEMBERS WOULD HAVE DRAGGED HER TO COURT LONG BEFORE GOING TO THE ELECTIONS.
the hypocrisy and double standards of the ndc is nauseating. Prez Nana Addo has been called "violent", "arrogant", "not fit to be president", "violent nature", "not presidential material", and many worse things by Ex Prez Mahama and low lifes like Mzbel. I have not heard any apology to Prez Nana Addo and the ndc are not complaining about that one. Take a hike all sour losers in the ndc. Madam Otiko Djaba will not apologize today, tomorrow nor the day after. Period!!!!!
she is not going to, she said the truth, Mahama is a disgrace, period!!!
Otiko A. Djaba will be dead before you people wll hear anything that resembles an apology to your incompetent JM. You want an apology for her telling it as it is/was? Why not demand an apology from Dr. Bawumia before he was sworn in as VP? He referred to him several times as INCOMPETENT and Ghanaains agreed with him. That is why Mahama is now an ex-president. Whether the NDC likes it or not Madam Otiko A. Djaba would be the minister for women and chidren
