Two Members of Parliament from the minority side, have filed a writ at the Supreme Court to revoke the appointment of Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
The Plaintiffs are the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman constituency, Ernest Norgbey, and the Member of Parliament for the Juaboso Constituency Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The two NDC MPs are praying the court to nullify the nomination and swearing-in of Madam Otiko Djaba due to her failure to undertake the mandatory national service.
Confirming the suit to Citi News, Mr. Akandoh stated that, Otiko Afisa Djaba cannot hold herself out as a Minister of state due to her failure to complete the mandatory national service.
“A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of the provisions of the constitution particularly article 94 (2)(g) of the constitution is in contempt of section (7) of the Ghana National Service Act, Act 426.
The second defendant Otiko Djaba is disqualified from being nominated, approved, and appointed as Minister of State constitutes employment in the Public Service.
A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of the provisions of the constitution that the swearing in of the Second defendant is null and void and has no effect whatsoever.
We also want an order directed at the second defendant restraining her from acting or purporting to act as Minister of State until such a time she completes her national service or duly granted an exemption in accordance with the National Service Act” the writ said.
The minority in parliament boycotted the approval of Madam Otiko Djaba, over her failure to do her national service and a purported bad temperament. She was thus approved by the Majority side who voted on her.

EIIII AKANDOH, DINING HALL PREFECT WHAT DO YOU KNOW ? PLEASE DIRECT YOUR MONIES INTO UPGRADING YOURSELF UP TO THE MASTERS LEVEL AND BEYOND, INSTEAD OF WASTING IT ON COURT SUITS WHICH WOULD EXPOSE YOUR HOLLOWNESS. YOUR ARE A DISGRACE TO SEFWIS. I AM FROM SEFWI, BUT I FEEL ASHAMED OF YOU. IS IT BECAUSE IN SEFWI ANYTHING GOES AS A PARLIAMENTARIAN? TWEAAAAAAAAA, ALL INTELLIGENT AND WELL MEANING SEFWIS WOULD MOBILISE AND KICK YOU OUT OF PARLIAMENT COME 2020.KOFI AKRASI IS GONE, ANNIN IS ALSO GONE YOU ARE THE NEXT TO FOLLOW. AS FOR AHI HE IS A LAUGHING STOCK IN PARLIAMENT. REMEMBER AT THE LAST VETTING HE COULD NOT DISTINGUISH BETWEEN BROADENING THE TAX NET AND TAX CUTS.
I think the NDC has forgotten as they forcefully pushed oti bless into his position then cos they were the majority why are they trying to pretend as if they never did such they should also know that the same constitution and art for national service also gave a way for people from 40years and above to be exempted from national service and Otiko Djaba was more than 40yrs when she graduated from UDS. NDC should stop their hypocrisy and allow the woman to be.
I will like to ask... how much do gov't support student who attend to private universities in our country ( ghana).... and also if NS is to save then wht is preventing the lady from saving her country...by working at the ministry..?? Pls if someone can help to explain this to me I will be happy
Any f00ll can go to the court!
The difference between NDC people and the NPP people is very clear. The NDC people are impulsive in all that they do. All that the know is create loot and share. NPP people think through whatever action they take.
WHEN I HEARD ABOUT TWO MPS GOING TO SUE OTIKO I EXPECTED NO OTHER THAN MPS OF ASHAIMAN AND JUABOSO.I HAVE LISTENED TO THEIR ARGUMENTS OF THE TWO ON THE MEDIA PLATFORM AND THEY ARE VERY ILLOGICAL AND SELF AGGRANDIZING. IT IS NOT STRANGE THEY HAVE TAKING SUCH POSITION. NO REASONABLE AND RESPECTED NDC MPS WOULD PUBLICLY DISGRACE THEMSELVES SO THEY LEAVE TO THIS TWO TO DO THE DIRTY WORK
i think their on the right direction.National service is compulsory for all well meaning ghanain who attains tertiary level certificate, refusing to do it is inconsistent to to the constitution so must be punish.
Shame on u the minority and a big shame to Ex president Mahama. Ur initial argument was that Otiko refused to apologize to Mahama but since that has nothing to do with the constitution u r now diverting the whole issue. Were u not the same people saying The President, Nana Akuffo Addo hate northerners?. Am surprised u r the same people trying to bring down one of ur own. Just like Jesus said, may God forgive u cos u dont know wat u r doing. Just blinded by hatred.
they should first sue oti bless then ask all Ghanaians to go back to national service coz its 2 years with 6 months compulsory military service.
