The Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akim Constituency in the Eastern Region has implored his colleague MPs to be proactive on President Akufo-Addo’s promises to the people of Ghana.
Derik Darko Ohene Assifo Bekoe said the President has promised constructing one factory for every district but if the leaders such as MPs and Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) sit idle waiting for the President to construct the factories, it will never come to pass.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP was speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Thursday, March 9 hosted by Nana Yaw Opare.
The former DCE for Upper West Akim said “the President said he will do one district one factory. You sit and see if President will bring it. You must lobby before they can come and that is what I am doing”.
He said he will sit down with his people to determine what factory will be suitable in the constituency.
“We must start looking for lands. We must do a proposal. We must get the raw material in place before the President starts the factory,” the MP explained. Proposed factory Mr. Ohene Assifo Bekoe said “we can establish a gari factory there because the best gari comes from Adeiso”.
“We manufacture the best gari in Ghana. If you want the best gari, come to Adeiso because we export gari to Nigeria and even European countries.”

Unfortunately, as much as I admire his enthusiasm and unbiased nature, it shows the level of people in the ndc. When nana talked about factories he wasn't talking about 'cottage industries'. He's talking about real factories that produce stuff. Yes you have the best gari, but instead of just turning cassava into gari and exporting it (remember Nigerians and other people in W/Africa can do it as well) why not change it into something else, like biscuits? When a district has an abundance of mango, it doesn't mean simply sending it to the kalyppo factory to be made into juice! Let's dry the fruit, package it professionally and send to countries that don't have exotic fruits. I'm sad to see that ndc wasted the last 8years throwing money around, visiting countries in droves and not seeing anything! They would sometimes come to the USA with an entourage of 200, eating, drinking, being merry and going shopping. Nothing in the form of research on how to industrialize the country and ensure gainful employment for everyone! Sad! And in he meantime CSIT is lying idle, their lands have been sold by ex govt employees and there's been no research to advance our people. Once again, good job Mr ndc MP but please and please try and diversify the gari.
These are the kind of people that can move Ghana forward. May God bless your idea
Thank you.
Good idea from a sensible opposition member, kindly teach koku, kofi adam, nketia, felic, ablakwa and the other babies with sharp teeths to learn and behave like u so that Ghanaians will help them in their comfortable lead
If such people are in the opposition, they will help the Government to succeed and for that matter every Ghanaian will be free from hardship especially the youth. The other cursed ones should free themselves from bondage and help their constituencies (People). My families from the other side of the country should imitate this man.
YOU FOR NOT BEING LIKE THE CURSED ONES.
