A leading member of Pressure Group, OccupyGhana, Sydney Casely-Hayford has said creating additional regions is not necessary.
According to him, the move is a waste of time.
“We are separated into ten regions. If some people they call politicians have their way, we are going to get about 14. And that for me is another waste of time and a red herring. You don’t need to break it up,” he argued on Citi FM‘s news analysis programme, The Big Issue on Saturday.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and honouring his campaign pledge of creating additional regions created a new ministry known as the Ministry of Regional reorganization headed by Member of Parliament for Okere constituency, Dan Botwe.
Government is seeking to split the Northern, Western, Volta and the Brong-Ahafo Regions however, some analyst have said the move is for political advantage. But the sector Minister, Dan Botwe has dispelled such claims saying it would instead enhance the economic opportunities as well as promote effective governance in such areas.
“It should be clear to us that some of the things politicians do in creating areas for political advantage is very temporal. He said the NPP created new constituencies and yet lost them later in elections. The NDC also created 45 new ones and also later lost the political advantage. The real issue should be development-led creation of districts and constituencies and not politics-led demarcations,” he added.

If the argument about splitting the Western region into two, then create access roads, revamp the rail way system. Dividing volta région is unnecessary. And so is Brong Ahafo because the Ashanti region is bigger than Bring any way. As for the Northern region, I agree it can be divided into three. Any attempted by the current administration to divide the volta, western and brong will backfire in their face because Ghanaians are far beyond the dirty politics politicians play on us. If the current administration will listen and take care, they will understand that, the former president did not loose the 2016 elections because he did nothing. To be frank, I can applaud him for his massive much needed developmental projects. If the current government won because of jobs and money liquidity in the system, they should focus on that and stop the unnecessary talking and misplaced priorities. They should very well tone down on their utterances, from the office holder to their supporters and they should listen to Ghanaians. Stop listening to your own voices. They must know that Ghana is not for NPP or NDC. It's for all of us. And people are free I to associate with any political party of choice even civil servants. So those claiming people should be sack because they have other party affiliation must be careful. They must note that, intimidation will not control the Ghanaian. Else the same misfortune that the NDC faced, they will face same.
JAK and JDM created more districts to "increase development" but has there been any development? So what shows the new region will "increase develpment" in the same vein? Politicians are fucccckkking Ghana and we are not telling them to stop this nooooonsense.
I agree with Casely-Hayford. We are wasting time with the regional splitting when all the regions are orphanised because development is supposedly centred on the districts. That is what has kept us poor and causing rural urban migration. Unless we decide to make the regions the focus of development, THERE WILL BE NO DEVELOPMENT IN ANY REGION. No matter how many you create.
Hi Casely you got it all wrong, Come to the northern part of western and see for yourself whether it is irrelevant splitting western region. We need a new region for spacial development.
This is pure sense.I hope those with ears are listening.
