The District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West in the Central region, Daniel Appianing on Friday handed over to the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Thomas Agyei Baffoe as directed by the President after his sack on Thursday.
That same day he laughed off reports in the media that he has been dismissed by President Akufo-Addo, insisting that he was still at post and had never been a happy man until the news of his suspension hit the media.
“I have never been happy in my life than today. I’m still in my office. I have not received official notification. I have heard it on social media and radio,” he stated in an interview with Starr News’ Elvis Adjetey.
He added: “Ever since this incident happened nobody has called to find out my side of the story. So if they are suspending me and it will be on radio without communicating to me that is their problem.”
But the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Thomas Agyei Baffoe in an interview confirmed that he’s taken over as the Acting DCE after meeting with Mr Appianing at Diaso the district capital where he handed all reports and assets of the assembly in his possession to him.
He was dismissed following his distasteful comments over the killing of Junior Military officer.
Ghana was thrown into a state of despair on Monday, May 29, 2017, when the news of the lynching of a military officer detailed at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region broke. Captain Maxwell Mahama of the 5th Infantry Battalion was heading a military detachment to the area to fight illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Following the incident, the DCE for the area, Mr. Appiannin told journalists that he was unaware that the military officer was part of a detachment to the area to assist in the fight against galamsey.
“There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese and the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of it. In fact, he is said to be the leader … I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers,” he was quoted as saying.
His utterances, however, attracted lots of condemnation from the public, with the family of the deceased calling for his immediate dismissal.

For me ; I do not believe what the Army is telling Ghanaians besides this DCE may be tyelling the truth ; there is more to this story than meets the eye ; these soldiers were there to protect somebody and not any galamasey ; there are some poweful individuals in both the NDC and NPP colluding and heavily involved in this business for their selfish ends ; they prefer gold to the welfare of Ghanaians ; they prefer Ghanaians to drink polluted water and die whilst they make fortunes for their families ; Is Jon Mahama family involved in this galamasey business or company or is the NPP big wigs involved ; they have sent Maxwell Mahama to his untimely death so some GREEDY people can make money may GOD CURSE THEM AND ALL THEIR GENERATION TO COME ; to me the DCE is been used as a scape goat besides there is some truth in what the man is saying and if these so called in the army are not stomach army men why on earth do they send an innocent man into a rough community armed but with no body guards and no radio communication to call for back up ; VERY STRANGE ; MAY OUR BROTHER REST IN PERFECT PEACE !!!!!!!
