Seven months into the Akufo-Administration, a former Minister of Trade and Industry under the Mahama administration, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah believes it is becoming clear this government cannot deliver on the promises made to Ghanaians.
Speaking to Citi News at the Ghana Economic Forum on Monday, Dr. Spio Garbrah said the New Patriotic Party resorted to “sloganeering” to win power.
This “fast food” politics, as he called it, is ultimately unsustainable as evidenced by the change in implementation periods for key policies promised, the former minister said.
“These are the Fast Foods of politics which the NDC may have failed to create… they were good at sloganeering and based partly on their effective sloganeering, they are in office.”
Free SHS being partially implemented
Dr. Spio Garbrah noted further key changes to Free Senior High School education policy that meant it would only be enjoyed by a student entering secondary education in the 2017/2018 academic year for a duration of three years.
He said the promised Free SHS was only being partially implemented “by allowing only those entering SHS this year for the first year to get the scholarships, not free education, and those in the second and third year will not even get the so called scholarships… and then if you don’t even get a certain pass grade, you don’t get to qualify at all.”
“So all of a sudden, parents are realizing that this thing we though were all going to get and children were celebrating, is not happening… so I am saying that there is a shifting of the goal post.”
Dr. Spio Garbrah indicated that he had always been skeptical about the promises because even his government fell short of promises made.
“I’m not actually surprised because we have been in politics for some time and we are aware of the gap between promises. But to the extent that the NDC did not deliver every promise it made, it was used against us in the last election even though President Mahama did a good job of implementing many of his policies and even went beyond what people expected”

This Team B player should give us a break. He is so disappointing nobody takes him serious. He was the weakest link in Mahama's administration. He was given a key position as Trade and Industry Minister, he could not add any value to the government. BUUULU.
SPIO-GARBRAH MUST SHUT HIS STEEENCH-FILLED TRAAAAP!!! MILLS AND MAHAAMA PROMISED IN 2008 THAT WHEN THEY CAME TO POWER IN 2009 THEY WILL RID GHANA OF FILTH AND GARBAGE IN 100 DAYS!!! EIGHT YEARS HAVE PASSED YET GHANA IS STILL ENGULFED IN FILTH AND GARBAGE!!! THAT IS WAHT I CALL FAST-FOOD PROMISES!!! Then from nowhere he flies one ineffective one at npp. please relax in your retirement; you are a spent force.
Good Spio himself was a big failure in Rawlings government and Mahama's government. When he cried team 'B' for Prof. Mills administration and joined Mahama's administration what impact did he make to send the ndc to that disgraceful and humiliated defeat, tweeeaaaa! If anyone will talk not this thing ask Koku Anyidoho where Spio Garbrah got his honorary Doctorate degree from? Tweeeaaa kai! What has this talkative done to help the ndc a party from us*less talks. If he thinks this will help him with his impossible presidential ambition then somebody tell him he is toast. He doesn't even has a constituency ,where is his constituency or you think Ghanaians are still ***barred word*** to vote for people who live in Accra and don't contribute back home? He should sh*t up and watch good governance with big brains not ndc birdbrains. Ghana is now being built and we don't want any black cat yo cross our path we shall crash them. Spio Garbrah you are Oldman now not young so learn sense and talk sensibly. Never think you can ever be pr esident of Ghana,God will never make that mistake, for an arrogant, disrespectful, boisterous and full of himself person like you to rule this nation. Get the Hell Off Our Necks. You think we don't remember you during Rawlings time? If you were a good candidate why did he go for Prof. Mills an outsider instead of you an insider kai ! Apuuuuuuuuuuuuu! You better sh*t up and say what you can do or bring yourself. ***barred word***! You were part of the team 'Z' not even team'B' give us a break!
@good, Ghanaians know who the incompetent people are so save ur breath and the noise u are making. @akuffo addo is a waste, thanks for letting Ghanaians know he is a waste but the truth is u are rather a waste to ur family cos u lack common s3ns3 and only god knows what i would have done to u if u were in my family. Spio should have used his IQ to write this cos this is below his standard, if u wanted the whple students to enjoy then why didnt u give it a start for anana to continue. when u were changing the 4yrs shs to 3 years did u start with the whole students? better grow up and stop the unnecesary talks. If u cant beat them just join them or stay mute

YOU, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN YOUR MORIBUND NDC SELF YOU WONT GET DA!! YOU DEY THERE AND TALK TRASH,THATS ALLL YOU KNOW BUT AT THE RIGHT TIME EVERYONE WILL SEE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE- SCUM,***barred word***.
Some people commenting here are with BLD heads. When NDC came to power in 2009 they reduced the then 4 years SHS to 3 years. This policy AFFECTED only those who STARTED with the 2009 Entrance into SHS. Why they did NOT start with those already in school but started with the then NEW entrance till today? So if someone also say I will implement my FREE SHS God willing if I win the then Election (December 2016). He has won and he was sworn into office January 2017 and he say he will start Free SHS from September or October 2017 what is DIFFERENCE here from that of what NDC did in 2009. A unborn child will REASON that this is UNDERSTANDABLE. Some people should reason here. @Akuffo Addo is a WASTE.
WHY DIDN'T YOU USED JULOF RICE FORMULA TO WIN THEM? SHAME ON YOU. WHAT ADVICE DID YOU GAVE TO MAHAMA WHEN YOUR PARTY WAS IN POWER FOR SUSTAIN YOUR PARTY? NOW YOU ARE IN OPPOSITION SEEING FORMULA YOU OPPONENT USED.
When NDC govt under Attah Mills- Mahama decided to reduce the duration of senior secondary education (SHS)from Kuffour's 4YEARS to NDC 3YRS, were all students in SHS affected by this poilcy or only first year students. Again, when even the NHIS began, was it everyone who was enrolled. Let's talk about the so called 200 school building project, was it every district that got one...selected few abi? Nevertheless, when each pupil and or student was promised a uniform and a shoe (pair) was every child given one? Sometimes, we expect intellectual discourse from certain quarters of elite in the country except that one want to undermine his or her respect and follow the multitude and dent him or herself. Spio, for once, we expected something better from you, but the analogy your are drawing is too low below you pls.. Govt in its wisdom and as practise else where has to start from some where, monitor for some time, correct the errors that occur and strengthens the whole policy to accommodate the entire student body, how on earth would u say all should start enjoying the scheme...then why dont you also say those who would not enjoy at all go and receive a refund of their fees paid...after all we are ghanaians...Pls some of us respect you and so do the right thinking before you come out...don't be politically blind to critical issues for people esteemly hold your views
GHANAIANS ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO BE DECIEVED BY THESE NPPians. NOW EVERYONE IS REGRETTING! THANK YOU SPIO. CLEARLY, GHANAIANS WILL SUPPORT YOU FOR THE PRESIDENCY IF JM WOULDN'T GO AGAIN.
