Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has pooh-poohed on claims that President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP government have been successful in clamping down on the activities of galamsey operators in the country.
To him, the government "has failed. There’s nothing going on. You can’t stop the galamsey. It is going on".
The current administration has never shied away from touting as a huge success, the work of Operation Vanguard in the fight against galamsey in the country.
The Akufo-Addo-led government insists despite some few challenges faced by the joint Police and Military taskforce, the fight has so far been successful.
Inaugurated on 21st of July 2017 as part of ways to efficiently fight illegal mining also known as galamsey, Operation Vanguard has recorded some successes over the past six months.
The operation of the task force has led to the arrest and prosecution of some illegal miners which have served as deterrent to others to refrain from the unlawful act.
Land degradation and pollution of water bodies have been the major problems caused by the activities of illegal mining.
Rivers such as Pra, Ankobra, Birim are among polluted water bodies but they are not clearing and returning to their natural state after the nationwide campaign against galamsey.
But Allotey Jacobs opines that the galamsey menace is still thriving under the very watch of President Akufo-Addo, and he proffered some reasons why; "it is your own party leaders who are encouraging these guys to go into the bush and do those businesses”.
"You have failed, totally failed and you don’t have any alternative for these people. These boys are back to business", he stated.
To the NDC Central Regional Chairman, Ghanaians have regretted voting for the Akufo-Addo administration and are therefore pining for a return of President John Mahama to supposedly continue his good works.
"Ghanaians seem to have now regretted voting President Mahama out. There’s regret all over the faces of Ghanaians and they’re complaining bitterly”.

We can always have an informed and meaningful discussions devoid of insults and move on as a nation. Mr. Allotey Jacobs angle of thinking is not strange. I trust he has seen the progress being made by the NPP government but he is adamant in accepting the truth. If his own party had done just a quarter of what the NPP has done, we should have been somewhere by now. We must not denigrate people solely because we hate them, but we should at least sit back and look at some of the good things they have done and give praise where it is due.
We waiting for the water bodies pollution solution. If the rivers are still polluted in 2020 then over to NPP defense and exit.
You see his mindset? These are the 1diots who actually managed Gh for the past 8yrs. Nothing is possible as far as they are concerned. Yet their corrupt leader Mahama is the one criticizing a performing govt and spewing SSSShhhhiiiittt! I'm waiting for the NDC to present him once again at their primaries, then I'll confirm they are BLESSED 1DIOTS!
Even if it has not been eradicated,it has minimised, and all of us should help fight it.Mahama was a failure as President,he failed in almost every thing.on sane mind will wish the return of Mahama.
