The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its members to boycott registration for the Ghana Card from the National Identification Authority (NIA).
A press release signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah on Monday, 23 July 2018, explained that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at its meeting on Thursday, 12 July 2018, took a decision not to participate in the ongoing National Identification Card (Ghana Card) registration exercise until the party’s demand that the Voter’s ID card is included as one of the requirements for registration, is met.
The statement said: “The likelihood that the Ghana Card would be used as the major document for the compilation of a new voter register makes it all the more compelling for the inclusion of the current voter’s ID card as a requirement for the ongoing Ghana Card registration exercise since its coverage is more extensive and its validity more genuine.
“Party faithful throughout the country are, therefore, enjoined to boycott the Ghana Card registration exercise until the authorities yield to our demand and include the voter’s ID card as requirement”.
The statement further added that: “…All party executives at all levels of the party are to ensure that FEC’s directive spreads like wild fire throughout the country”.
Minority legislators have already boycotted the registration claiming the exercise will disenfranchise and de-nationalise several Ghanaians because only birth certificates and passports will be used as identification for registration.
They, therefore, did not participate. Only legislators from the Majority side making themselves available for the registration exercise when the NIA officials went to parliament to have legislators registered for the card.

Can we use our party card to do transactions in Ghana? If we can then we can good to go. If not then I'm sorry my family and I will go and register. We will need it one-day.
WHO THIS ***barred word*** HIS TALKING TOO, THE CARD IS NOT FOR NDC. SO ANYONE WHO FELLOW THIS ***barred word*** MAN WILL REGRET LATER AFTERALL MOST OF NDC SUPPORTERS ARE FOREIGNERS NOT GHANAINS.
LOOK AT THE MAN TALKING HE TALK LIKE A PERSON WHO DOES NOT AND CAN NOT THINK FAR.HE CAN NOT SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE HOW IMPORTANT THE GHANA CARD WOULD BE.HE WANT TO DECEIVE GHANAIANS NOT TO REGISTER WITH THE NIA,HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE ALL LIVING IN CANADA AND HE IS HERE IN GHANA TRYING TO FUUUULLL GHANAIANS.LET PEOPLE WHO HAVE DEAD MINDS LIKE HIM FOLLOW HIM THEY WILL ONE DAY LAUGH AT THE WRONG SIDE OF THEIR MOUTH.HOW CAN ONE PERSON LIKE JOHNSON ASIEDU NKETSIA COMMAND OVER FIVE MILLION PEOPLE OF NDC? WILL THEY HEED TO HIS BOGOS DIRECTIVES? IF YES THEN THE PARTY HAS A BIG PROBLEM A WORD TO THE WISE IS ENOUGH.
NDC is always thinking about elections and nothing else...... The card is not for only elections.... Your MPs were in parliament drinking tea when the law was being passed and never raise any issues...... We will go ahead and issue the card without those ful..lish NDC people who will listen to you. You sent your children to Canada and deceiving those following you.
Hi NIA, please you delaying the public registration. I need it ASP for my transaction as Ghanaian. For NDc the least we talk about them
Now Kwame Sefa Kayi is comparing NDC action with NPP but not long ago during NDC time, his chorus was "Do we have to continue like that". Today, he is citing examples and comparing. Best journalist indeed.
I am an NDC member who live at Tamale central constituency,I will not listen to you because I will need the card to do business transactions. This is not party matter but individual affair so this directive is very unfortunate and I can see from afar the party will be the loser. If indeed there is a constitutional breach in the issuance of the card, please file a suit at the supreme court before it too late.
Fellow NDC members for your information Ghana card is not only for elections we as students we seriously need it 1. To travel, 2. For bank businesses and any other places where it may be requested for so don't allow these old ***barred word*** politicians who have their children living in abroad, or travels to abroad for medical examination to tell us what to do. We have brains to decide what we want. The way NPP is behaving we may be heading towards a situation where without ID or Ghana card we may not be permitted to vote so think NDC.
Some of our so called leaders are very myopic, they cant think afar. Why will you tell your members not to registered even if they have the requirements, and it wont cost them anything to register. A potential voter for the NDC who will vote for the party to win power is been told not to register, haaaaaaa this man paaaaaa!!!. So do our leaders have vision at all?
