An aide to the Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling NPP, Mr. Andy Owusu, has stated that it would be suicidal for any of the CEOs under the Energy Ministry to deliberately test Mr. Amewu’s caution to fire them if they were to conduct themselves in an unprofessional way.
The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu recently served the strongest of warnings to all state Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) under his Ministry to conduct themselves properly.
The minister categorically said he was not going to countenance any form disrespect towards him, and that, such awkward attitude will be met with a dismissal.
Mr. Amewu issued the warning after CEOs of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas), and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), failed to show up for a scheduled visit to the Aboadze Terminal Plant, even though they had been informed ahead of time.
“These CEOs in this country, it is time something is done seriously about them, and for me, I am not going to sit down and work with Chief Executives that will not be prepared to listen to me. Before I am gone, a Chief Executive will go; I am not going to entertain that,” he lamented.
Many Ghanaians have described the energy minister's outburst as timely, which to them, will put CEOs of state institutions on their toes.
For Andy Owusu, it was time people in such positions to be checked properly for the progress of the country.
He said he supports the minister's call, which he noted, would reinstate discipline in the working environment of Ghana.
According to Andy Owusu, inasmuch as he wished none of the CEOs under the ministry becomes a scapegoat, they shouldn’t take the energy minister's threats lightly.
Andy further warned against any deliberate move to test the pulse of the minister adding that "I've known this minister for years and I clearly and perfectly know his level of discipline. He doesn't entertain lateness, or any sort of undiscipline. Therefore, daring him means an early exit for whoever."
He ended by calling for effective and strong collaboration between the minister and his CEOs, for the greater good of the country.
