NPP Youth Organizer, Nana Boakye has commended the government for dissolving the Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
A new 7-member Interim Council has been tasked by government to with immediate effect, find solutions to impasse at the University following a violent protest by the students on campus on Monday, October 22, 2018.
Government has also directed that the university be reopened within fourteen days to enable academic work to continue.
Speaking to sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme, Nana Boakye noted that the decision to dissolve the Council is the "best" because in order to find lasting solution to the conflict between the students and the University authorities, an interim Board had to be set up.
He also fired at the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) of KNUST over their statement to the government regarding the interim Committee.
A statement signed by its President, Prof. Eric K. Forkuo, said the lecturers will advise themselves should "the government insist on going forward with its interim arrangement".
UTAG says the dissolution of the Council “frowns on the autonomy of the University and smacks of political interference.”
Nana Boakye has advised UTAG not to take sides and make conclusions on the issue.
He asked what specific role UTAG played when the students began agitating over the decisions by the Governing Council which resulted in Monday's incident where several properties were destroyed by the student protesters to register their displeasure.
The NPP National Youth Organizer believed the interim Committee would help solve the issue, stressing "we should give the students some sense of dignity. We must respect them. But in the process, if somebody should lose his job; so be it".

Nana B, Sammi Awuku, MP Okoe Boye, the Minister Of Education will have rotten eggs thrown into their faces for the vain attempt to defend the mindless and lawless conduct of these "kids" masquerading as University students
@Dubai Ambassador, well spoken. Any idi.o.t can get appointment via poli-trickal affiliation, but defend pre doctoral thesis and you will know when a man or woman has earned the title, Professor, not the one Pastors these days confer upon themselves, even if what s/he is doing seems silly, best you accept the intellect of their actions is beyond you st.u.pi.d mental abilities to reason.
Don't act stupidly. The fact that you are doing a party's work does not give you the power to comment on issues beyond your office. This is a matter of discipline and education of a generation. Don't destroy the moral fiber of these young people with political poison. You don't know better than the institution's leaders. By the way, anybody can get a political appointment either by party affiliation or by the ability to insult or say any ***barred word***; but University Administrators reach their position by their hard work. Anyone can be a politician either they are intelligent or not; but only few can be educators at the universities; therefore know your limit.
NANA B IS SPOT ON THOUGH
Pls stay out of this , i don't believe you are matured enough to put your mouth inside. if you are a youth organizer it is not by force that come and talk some.
Great move . students must not be seen to have their way. it is dangerous. if u are a student of a university that will award you a degree you better respect them and be obedient. you cant destroy property and for any reason. and you dont have a right your right is study and pass after all how many years will you be there? I like NPP but this is a bad move from government complicating matters, now we have 3 in the conflict instead of 2. not surprising politician dont have the best of solutions in this matters. like one suggested it is the SRC thta needs to be dissolved and banned
at times I find it difficult to distinguish between military rule and this so called democracy we're practicing. it seems to become decision maker or to comment and recommend for measures towards resolving issues doesn't matter the level of one's knowledge and experience but one's closeness to political authority. issues like what's going on demand cool heads and intelligent opinion leaders to authoritatively comment and give suggestions. politics is polluting our environment with too many inexperienced decision makers. abba!
How can obiri Danso be a judge in his own case? The Lecturers are only afraid cos if Obriri Danso is sacked their evil deeds of Sleeping with the students before awarding marks will be exposed. Shame on u guys.
Can somebody ask these little boys to shut their mouth up? Why is the NPP not able to control it members. These are the same people who have gotten as where we are not and Nana Addo cannot ask them to keep quiet? What does Nana B know about running a University? if not for politics where would people like you be to have the chnace to insult lectures and professors who have due accomplished a lot through their own toils. Those are the people i respect not Nana B. I am getting tired of how NPP is allowing lose talk in the government. Somebody needs to call these small boys to order
Now that UTAG, GUAU, FUSSAG and TEWU have all threatened to lay down their tools perhaps people like Nana B, Sammy Awuku and the Manhyia North MP will go and teach the students when school resumes in 14 days. When you don't know the dynamics you keep quiet and be counted as a wise man, instead of opening your mouth and spewing nauseating sputum Empty barrels they say make the most noise
