Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Akufo-Addo government to fulfill its
promises to teacher trainees and nursing students by paying the allowances owed them.
Mr Mahama made the call when he addressed delegates of the National Democratic Congress
(NDC) in Ada on Friday to wrap up his five-day campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region.
He said prior to the 2016 general elections, the NDC administration explained to the students
that it was better to shift them onto the students’ loan scheme in order to use the extra money
to build more schools and hospitals to enable government provide them with sustainable jobs.
But then opposition NPP criticised the decision and promised to pay the teacher trainees and
nursing students allowances when elected.
“By God’s grace you have come, now pay the trainees. You promised and so you must fulfill it.
Promises are meant to be fulfilled and so the teacher trainee allowances, the nursing training
allowances, you promised that you will pay, so go ahead and pay”, he said.
Former President Mahama also bemoaned the congestion in many Senior High Schools (SHS) as
a result of the poor implementation of the Free Senior High School programme, citing overcrowding
in dormitories and its attendant bed bugs problems in particular.
He has therefore appealed to the government to fumigate dormitories in order to bring relief to
the suffering students.
On the double track system, Mr Mahama asked “what will parents be doing with their children
at home on vacation for 41 days of vacation”? He added that parents are likely to pay more for
extra tuition for their children when they go on vacation from schools next week.

When will Mahama start talking policy and stop this low-belting? He could leave this kind of talk to serial callers. When I heard he wanted to come back I thought he was coming with new ideas and not this kind of lowly talk. Has he learned anything at all?
Oh this man paa, he is such a pity sight.
MAHAMA DEA GYIMEAAAAAA BASABASA..IN SONGOS VOICE
Is this man that desperate for power? Some of the things he says is so infantile that if his followers were not lobotomised they should be laughing at him. The arrears of teachers started somewhere in 2014 and the NDC were never able to pay the teachers. If someone is now in charge and trying in the face of numerous challenges to pay these people the decent thing to do is to keep quiet about it ,but this man seems not to know shame.Any Ghanaian who casts a vote for this kleptomaniac wants his country to sink.
Mr Dramani Nkonfem tell us what you will for Ghana if you get another chance and that campaign tactics.
What were parents doing with their wards when they were staying home for two months during long vacation? Mr.Mahama just join the winning team.
Joe, you are a ***barred word*** to insult your neighbour.
Stop disclosing your immaturity Mr Mahama. Did you fulfil all your promises you made to Ghanaians. Where's the one time NHS premium. Empty barrel!!!!!
THANK GOD FOR JOHN MAHAMA
Nkwasiafo) w) Ghana papaaaaapa. Upon canceling the payment you have the gout to criticize someone who is trying to pay the students. Are you not ashamed of yourself or because you are pepenii ntia?
