The camp of Professor Joshua Alabi, an aspiring flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed disappointment with the GHS400,000 filing fee expected to be paid by all flag bearer hopefuls of the main opposition party.
Nii Amassah Namoale, Campaign Coordinator for Prof Alabi, has described the amount as “outrageous” and further called on the Council of Elders of the NDC to intervene.
All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are expected to pay GHS400,000 as filing fee while female flag bearer aspirants are to pay GHS200,000 and persons with disability aspiring to the same position are to pay GHS150,000.
The nomination form for the flag bearer slot is going for GHS20,000.
Also, the parliamentary aspirants are expected to pay GHS20,000 as filing fees. Female parliamentary aspirants will pay half of that.
The party took the decision at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, 29 November at the party’s headquarters in Accra. According to the party, all aspirants have up to 10 days to submit the [properly filled forms].
Speaking on this development on Asempa FM Thursday, 29 November 2018, Mr Namoale said: “In fact the amount is outrageous and unreasonable but this is a NEC decision. We will like to appeal to the Council of Elders to meet with the NEC to review that amount."
He added that: "The unreasonableness is on the date, you cannot use 10 days to tour the whole country to sign on the form, you can't. That 10 days is too short a time..."
He further appealed to all the other aspirants to reject the amount.
"No matter what prof Alabi will still contest. I will plead with the other flag bearer aspirants including former president Mahama to reject the amount, the fee should come below GHS100,000," he said.

Name: Owura All that NDC leadership is saying is that, since you believe you have what it takes to lead the party to victory in 2020, then you should have at least 1000 people who will be willing to support your candidature with at least 420 Ghana Cedis to file for you. That mobilization will be an indication that you will be able to mobilize resources for an effective campaign when you win the slot. Secondly, since each aspirant is confident of winning the primaries, none should complain believing that the other contestants will eventually contribute totgekr campaigns through the filing fees- Any aspirant who complains about the filing fees should be deemed a time-waster who is simply using the party to gain popularity. Any aspirant who believes they can win over 5,000,000 Ghanaians to become President shouldn’t have a problem mobilizing resources from 1000 people to file. I call on all branch executives to open their eyes and ears wide to identify all those who will complain. That’s an obvious indication that they are there for comic relief. Meanwhile NPP paid 500,000 Ghana Cedis in 2015 for a similar exercise so I don’t even understand why NDC is charging only 400,000. Maybe because the economy was better then than now-
Selfish and greedy JDM is behind all this. Because he has a greater part of the C.L. & Share booty and capable of paying
you shout there is no money people are suffering and now look at the amount you are charging for filing fee. God is watching you all
This is just to use money to eliminate others and give the flag bearer ship to the incompetent John Ford..... NDC is a gang of cr!m!nals...... Other aspirants who cannot afford the money must resign from the corrupt party.
