Former President John Dramani Mahama, has commended all farmers and fisher-folk for their hard work as the country celebrate Farmers’ Day.
He says farmers deserve better on their investment.
December 7, is Farmer’s Day, and it is dedicated to celebrating Ghanaian farmers and fisher-folk whose contributions have supported the growth of the country’s agricultural sector.
This year’s National Farmers’ Day anniversary was held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium at Tamale in the Northern Region.
President Nana Akufo-Addo was the guest of honour for the event meant to reward farmers and fisherfolk.
In a post on his Facebook page, the former President urged government to continue with programmes that would ensure efficiency in the agriculture sector.
“As we celebrate our dear farmers, today, we must as a nation decide to move beyond mere words and support them with the needed inputs and machinery to ensure safety and efficiency in agriculture."
"I urge government to pay serious attention to, and continue programmes such as the Agricultural Mechanization Centres, the Farmers Service Centres and other policies like the deliberate development and rehabilitation of irrigation facilities and provision of targeted funding through the EDAIF, now Ghana EXIM, to farmers.”
"Farmers deserve better returns on their investment than what government is offering, government should do better for Ghanaian farmers".
“I believe our farmers deserve better returns on their investments than what government is offering them. Therefore, government must roll up its sleeves and back their rhetoric with concrete and innovative actions.”

It is another year, and another day to celebrate and praise our dear farmers and our fisher folks for their hard work, which continues to contribute greatly towards sustaining our economy. We must also praise God almighty for the rains this year.
As we celebrate our dear farmers, today, we must as a nation decide to move beyond mere words and support them with the needed inputs and machinery to ensure safety and efficiency in agriculture.
I urge government to pay serious attention to, and continue programmes such as the Agricultural Mechanization Centres, the Farmers Service Centres and other policies like the deliberate development and rehabilitation of irrigation facilities and provision of targeted funding through the EDAIF, now Ghana EXIM, to farmers.
I believe our farmers deserve better returns on their investments than what government is offering them. Therefore, government must roll up its sleeves and back their rhetoric with concrete and innovative actions.
This is the only way we can ensure good returns on investment for farmers, enhance productivity, and achieve agricultural diversification through agro processing, cotton, shea nut and cashew farming.
Ayekoo to our farmers!
Happy Farmers Day!!

Can Mahama update Ghana on his Bole Farm? How has it contributed to the over 8% of Ghana’s agricultural growth which under his tenure was recording negative with a soaring food import bill, a a runaway currency? Where is the Bole Farm?
Yeah, the Ghanaian farmer deserve better; the last time you were in office,Mr.Mahama some won Toilet rolls as awards. This year's farmers' Day is considerable improvement than it used to.
Just send a message to farmers on their day, and that one too is politics. Why is this man now so nauseating? Farmers deserve better than what government is offering them, tell us what government is offering them first, before you make statements like that. All this empty talk cannot bring you back to power.
