A private legal practitioner, Capt Rtd. Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, wants the 80-year-old leader and other members who attempted to declare the Volta Region an independent state to be dealt with severely by state authorities.
According to him, the group must face the full riguors of the law after describing their attempt as an “explosive move” which could have destroyed the entire nation.
“I pray that the Attorney General and the President will deal with them mercilessly,” he said in an interview with Neat FM morning show 'Ghana Montie'.
An 80-year-old leader and seven other leading members of the Volta Separatist movement have been arrested and flown to Accra by personnel from National Security.
The separatist movement in the Volta Region, the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), is a group calling for the secession of the Volta Region from Ghana.
The group claims that the Volta Region (Western Togoland) was an independent state before being made to join Ghana in a plebiscite.
The leader of the group, Mr. Charles Kormi Kudzodzi – popularly known as Papa Hogbedetor, was arrested with seven others on Sunday at one of the group’s regular study meetings.

Look at the ***barred word*** call Effah whatever !
CONTROLLER STAFF THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE, YOU CLAIM TO BE A FANTE, MENTION YOUR REAL NAME, ABIOA BI BA
I am Fante man but I think this group is justified for calling for Independence. We have discriminated against them for far too long. Most people in Ghana prevent their children from marrying there saying "they are foreigners". Most Akans believe they are more Ghanaians than others and look down upon them. So the seeds we planted is what is beginning to bear fruits. What is the way forward? Authorities should sit them down and address their concerns. Arresting and prosecuting their leaders would not solve the problem. The more you arrest, the more they get sympathies.
MR. EFFAH-DARTEY, HAVE YOU SAT DOWN TO PONDER OVER WHAT IS COMPELLING THESE PEOPLE TO BREAK AWAY? IF YOU DON'T KNOW AS A LAWYER AND MEMBER OF THE NPP, THEN LET ME TELL YOU THAT THE BAD AND NEPOTISTIC NANA ADDO'S GOVERNMENT IS COMPELLING PEOPLE TO LEAVE GHANA OR BREAK AWAY FROM GHANA. THIS IS THE WORSE EVER GOVERNMENT GHANA HAS HAD AFTER INDEPENDENCE. YOU CAN PRETEND THAT ALL IS GOOD AND ROSY AND DECIDE TO BURY YOUR HEADS IN THE SAND LIKE OSTRICHES. THAT DAY WILL COME AND THE RAVAGING FIRE OF THE GHANAIAN VOTERS WILL CONSUME YOU LIKE HELL FIRE. YOU CAN GO AND SLEEP AND DO NOTHING ABOUT PEOPLES' COMPLAINS. JUDGEMENT DAY WILL BE HERE ON 7TH DECEMBER, 2020
BNI, National Security or CID must leave the separatist individuals alone. They should let them go and we shall see what would become of NDC. May be they shall go with their NDC. Then Fifi Quertey Ablawak and Kweshiga shall no more have the privilege for any nonsesees talk in Ghana parliament. I am disappointed in people like Togbe Afedzi, JJ and others who sit quiet for such things occur under their watch without any good advice to the separatists. Such actions without any reaction from others from Volta region make other groups in Ghana look at them with suspicion. The security should watch them carefully but leave them to themselves. They are harmful and dangerous to their own interest and welfare.
SOMETIMES I QONDER WHAT THEIR REAL ITENTIONS ARE. RAWLINGS, WHO IS AN EWE, RULED GHANA FOR 19 YEARS PLUS, THESE PEOPLE NEVER ASKED FOR SEPARATION. MAHAMA AND MILLS RULED FOR 8 YEARS, THEY NEVER DID. WHY IS TAT THEY ONLY FIND THEIR VOICES WHEN THE NPP IS IN POWER? IT SUCKS!!!!
Either Effah Datey is ***barred word*** or he is behaving like an imperialist.
Nenni who were the Ghanaians you talking about?those ndc Azorka boys and the Hawks who came to Accra to harm Ghanaians are the ones you talking about as some Ghanaians the president should waste time on are you alright?people who were sent down by their masters to kill Ghanaian voters and met their meters must be paid heed to than those Ghanaians who were going to vote ?nons*ense! do you think he has time for ndc hoodlums? those azorka boys who were transported to cause mayhem to Ghanaians should be in jail by now !
Please, allow them to go. Ghana is over populated. Let them govern their People. Cameroon is facing similar Problems. The Englisch speaking is warring for seccsion. Western Togoland, they are yet to discover their natural resources to govern themselves.
