Parliament has decided to construct a 450-seater Parliamentary Chamber Block by the end of 2019.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye, unveiled the design of the chamber last Friday.
The unveiling was done during a courtesy call paid by a delegation from the Architectural Firm – Adjaye & Associates.
In attendance, were the Leadership of the House, some members of the Board, the Clerk and other Principal Directors of the Parliamentary Service.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, some allocation has been made towards the project by the government but additional funding is being sourced to make the project a reality.
However, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak have spoken against it.
Adding their voice to the debate, host of Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kwami Sefa Kayi, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt and other panel members who appeared on the show on Tuesday felt it was "needless".

Hey, I saw that you are interested in Growth Hacking. I've created a free checklist that will help you grow your LinkedIn network in an automated way. You can download this free checklist right now at https://bit.ly/3RPMBJb Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
GHANAINS AND THEIR EARNEST TO CONCLUSIONS. SINCE EVERYONE IS A POLITICIANS IT IS EASY FOR US TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IRAN AND IRAQ.EVEN ELITES CAN'T THINK DEEP ABOUT ISSUES. GHANA IS OF AGE AND THESE EDIFICE ARE SOURCES OF THAT, LET STOP THE PROPAGANDA AND WEIGH THINGS AND RATHER SUGGEST RATHER THAN OPPOSING IT.WHETHER NDC OR NPP OR CPP ITS ALL ABOUT MOTHER GHANA AND ITS GROWTH AS WELL AS IMAGE.
Oh my God, what is happening in my dear country? We need to have a neutral force to take legal and democratic action against these good for nothing elites in our society. I mean a force which will swear to the whole country that they will not have any political affiliation and will also not be using this social platform/movement to pave a way into politics like what George Andah disgracefully did, using occupyghana as a conduit to getting into politics. This way our politicians their boot lickers and their hangers on will respect us. Folks, these people don't give a damn about us. When the questioning touched on the UK parliament having 130 parliamentarians standing when there is full session, Osei Mensah Bonsu started to philosophize. This is disgraceful. We are in dire economic times and this guy says what? Not everyone has got three square meals so what, building a new chamber is no big deal? I do not blame these people but ourselves as we have become so tribal in our politics that we are blind in support of thing that are not in our interest. These politicians know that there is a faction in the country which will support them anyway so the rest can go to helll. We also have journalists who are just political hacks only interested in bribes to suppress and confuse issues. Sefa Kayi, OB and the disgraceed Kwaku Barko in mind. We should resist this legally. We can takeover the streets and demonstrate for days on end like in Singapore and France and they will start listening. They are not hungry and destitute so they do not understand how the ordinary citizen feels
It appears all the criticism have been target at the increase in the capacity of the chamber. We seem to ignore the fact that the current parliament was not designed for that purpose and it is a disaster in waiting. The current arrangement where one has to park and walk several metres before accessing the building is not the best and how do visitors access the building when it is raining? The fact is that we need a new parliament house and the whole enclave should be redesigned to match the conference centre with a lot of security infrastructure put in place. We seem to know the cost of every thing but the value of none. I favour the reconstruction of the parliament house after all the poor shall always be with us Deut 15:11
Ghana does not need a new chamber. These MP's don't even go to parliament so what is the need? They are the only people who do not go to work but get paid.
Well, after you criticize, go ahead and buy tickets for holidays abroad to vist West Minister and the like, in the name of tourism. Parliament should go ahead and put up the structure. For a sovereign state aspiring to be firmly tagged a modern, democratic, develop nation, every facet of our national institutions should be uplifted in great foresightedness. Allow the indoctrinated, visioness few, to keep talking, after all, that is their chosen profession to earn a living. Dissapointing duo. Mr. Speaker, please, kindly use the construction money to increase the allownces of those two (2) MPs, afterall, they need to improve on their stomach infrastructure. And why not, stomach infrastructure is needful.
it like the new airport which is nice but needless. the old airport is not only underutilized but it is also going waste. why do we ste al the country money this way. what are we doing to ourselves. build a landing beach at james town and ste al from it but not to create needless structures.
it is indeed needless. even the members of parliament are too much. we need to urgently find the need to prune them down. many do not attend sittings except to sign for the purposes of payment of salary. the chop chop is too much in third africa. this is completely needless. we must concentrate to develop the country in the manner suitable for the future not to be pouring new wine into old wine. just stop.
