Outspoken Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central is not happy about the lack of respect legislators command in Ghana.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong said in spite of the hustle they go through to get elected, MPs are the least respected in Ghana.
Sharing his frustration on Net 2 TV, monitored by Adomonline.com, the Assin Central MP blamed their predicament on the late release of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
This, he stressed, impedes their ability to undertake developmental projects in their constituencies and satisfy the insatiable quest of their constituents.
Mr Agyapong said Ghanaians respect ‘people who carry toilet’ than MPs because they fear the consequences that may result if they fail to obey them.
“Let’s be honest, MP and assemblyman are two stupid jobs in this country, people do not respect any of these people. Ghanaians tend to respect people who carry toilets than MPs and assemblymen all because they know they will face dire consequences when they mock such people…,” he added.

Respect is earned through your conduct. Some of you MPs are criminals, womanizers, and all of you liers! Tell me: which of these traits do you think should earn you respect? Once they get to parliament on the people's maddate all they do is serve their personal, parochial interests whilst the constituents are left to rod. In fact as far as I am concerned the whole concept of parliament in Ghana is ***barred word*** and should be scraped!. It is just a drain on the taxpayers' money! They just go there and sit for 4 years waiting for ex-gratia! What is the point having a parliament that cannot hold the executive responsible and accountable? They make laws that they themselves break with impunity! If parliament was effective and played its watchdog role corruption in this country would have gone down drastically or completely be eliminated. The dubious things and corrupt practices that some of these so-called Mps get involved in will shock even the devil!
Why should we respect? what do you people do in parliament? only to talk, misbehave and joke.
When you strut around like peacocks and expect to be served instead of serving the people who put you there, where do you expect the respect to come from?
