The President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo has charged Ghanaians to eat local rice to help improve the rice industry in the country.
“Rebecca, my beautiful wife; our First Lady, insists that we eat local rice at home and has made sure of this. I call on all Ghanaians to follow my example and eat local rice” he said.
The President disclosed this when he addressed the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration in the volta region under the theme "Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture Towards Agric-Business Development".
He urged Ghanaians to support farmers by consuming their produce in a bid to boost self-sufficiency.
“The success of government’s efforts in ensuring self-sufficiency in rice production depends largely on the level of consumption of local rice. We must eat what we grow to motivate our farmers and support the development of the local food industry.”
As part of the government’s moves to support local rice production, President Akufo-Addo said the state has imported milling materials from China and Brazil.
The materials are expected to arrive in Ghana mid-2020 to provide “appreciable relieve to farmers and boost the grain industry.”
The President also said his administration will continue “to prioritize and support agriculture to make the sector one of the most viable driving forces of Ghana’s economic development and transformation.”

@Truth or whatever you call yourself, you cannot threaten me, okay? Who are you? This is democracy and we all speak our minds, Fo*lish id*ot. That nansins must stop!
Mr. President your call is noted but the rice producers and farmers should endeavor to package their rice well because the stones are just too much in the rice.
I think you are just a ***barred word***, only left to remove your cloth and go naked and roam in the street. Why do you curse someone for being a citizen and not spectator? My God forgive you.
A very good example. how does the price compare with imported rice? I would like my sister to send me a small bag of Ghana rice. I miss it.
@KWABENA KESSE your entire family will be poor till their 20th generation and bare in mind you will toil on this earth and sweat but you will not enjoy your own labour. THIS IS FROM A DOG EATER AND NO AMOUNT OF PRAYER WILL OVERTURN THIS TILL YOU POST BACK ON THIS PLATFORM AND RETRACT THE INSULTS ON AKYEM PEOPLE BECAUSE INSULTING THE PRESIDENT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS BUT TO CALL US DOG EATERS NOOOO. MARK IT FROM TODAY. I CURSE YOU WITH THE AIR AND WATER TILL YOU RETRACT AND APOLOGISE.
How do we authenticate your statement that you eat local rice? Is it because you said it? Go and sit black star square and let your wife cook asaabo local rice for all of us to see on TV while you eat, then we can follow your example. We want to follow more of your examples, so start receiving the minimum wage so that the rest of us will bite the bullet. Hypocrisy at its best. Start using commercial planes for traveling instead of chartered flight wasting our scarce resources. This is the example we want and not coming to advise us to eat local rice. Finally, stop sleeping like a lazy man in public as an example to the youth so they also stop being lazy.
Kwabena Kesse or whatever, learn to respect elders. The Bible says respect the elderly so that you live long on this earth. Go to church on Sunday and ask for forgiveness because your live on earth has been reduced by this your unfortunate comments
