Founder of The People's Project (TPP), Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has lambasted government over what he describes as a complete waste of the tax payer’s money and time.
Reacting to the news about government’s readiness to accept a single currency for all ECOWAS countries, he quizzed why the ruling party saw the need to introduce new currencies into the system if they knew they would eventually drop it for the ECO.
He was even more awed by the fact that government took the decision particularly after they have pledged to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
“Government says by 2020, we will be using the ECO currency. 8 countries will be using that currency. You knew you would eventually agree to this but you went to print 100 and 200 cedis, burdening the country’s economy and yet they are able to say ‘there is no money in the system, when you know it is very expensive to print money.”
He further bemoaned the inconsiderate attitude of politicians, especially of the citizenry who devoted their time to voting and making them who they are today.
“They are the reason people say there is no God, does it make any sense? You say there is no money in the system and yet see what you do. A pregnant woman will stand in a queue to vote for you and after you think of getting bullet-proof curtains for parliament, if this is not wickedness, what is it?
…they are not thinking about the next generation, they are only thinking about how they can win the elections and people must rise up against this.”
The solution, in his opinion, is to consider an alternative outside the two big parties when voting in the 2020 polls.
“The only time Ghana will move on is if we rise up against NPP and NDC. Is Ghana for the NDC and NPP?”

It is really sad what you are doing to yourself Mr A-Plus. Too much talking mean that very little thinking. On the flip side, have you considered engaging in any economic activity that might provide some employment to alleviate the hardship situation of our people? Factories Farming Irrigation trading IT solution Mining security Education. The lack of these services also imply lack of employment. We the youth should think about providing some service to the people to earn us a living, and stop this political entrepreneurship which cannot solve any of our problems.
This ***barred word*** boy should let us have some peace of mind. He opens his mouth then put his toes in. Stop your ranting cos your understanding is seriously flawed.
The problem in this country is when musicians begin to propose economic solutions and when economists start writing gospel songs. Whst may appear to A-Plus as a "simple" logic may not be that simple in economic strategy. At least can't we have some modicum of respect for the learned Governor, the same way we trust a pilot who flies a plane even when it is raining? Problem though is that the Governor may not be able to go public with all the strategies behind every single policy decision. Intellectualism is heavy business, a burden even, and so the likes of A-Plus should move away from the simple mindedness, from feeding on milk to eating bones.
People here are missing the point. A plus is on point. Printing money anyhow is reckless. Currently Mobile Money usage is on the rise. Instant Pay is available. Reducing currency supply reduces inflation in some instances. There are so many reasons why this printing does not make any sense. Paper notes encourages corruption. It breeds money laundering. I suspect, as A plus said, this is purely a vote buying gesture. I've seen money being distributed to buy votes. Just watch. They will use back doors to print extra cash and throw it at people. 2020 NDC, NPP away!!!
Your level of understanding in some of these issues is very low, you need a professional economics to explain things to you well. Do really know how long it will take us to adopt this currency , it goes beyond your level of understanding. Seek for more clarification. Is not everything that you can see with your political lens please
WHO TOLD YOU THE BANK OF GHANA WILL NOT REPRINT SOME OF THE 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, AND 50 CEDIS NOTES THAT WE HAVE IN CIRCULATION ALREADY AS THEY DO EITHER MONTHLY OR ANNUALLY BASIS BECAUSE THERE IS AN INTENT TO ADOPT ECO SHOULD WE MEET THE CRITERIA? THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WE USE TO PRINT A FIVE CEDI NOTE IS BASICALLY THE SAME AMOUNT THAT WE USE TO PRINT THIS 100 AND 200 NOTE.....SO FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU ARE TO PAY SOMEONE FIVE MILLION, INSTEAD OF GIVING THE PERSON 50 OF THE TEN CEDI NOTE, YOU CAN GIVE 2 OF THE 200 CEDI NOTE AND 1 OF THE 100 CEDI NOTE WHICH IN A LONG TERM CUT DOWN THE BOG'S EXPENDITURE ON PRINTING PLENTY OF THE SMALLER NOTES....BUT I DON'T BLAME A PLUS FOR HIS LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF REASONABLE THINGS FROM BIG BRAINS LIKE KEN AND ADDISSON.......EVEN THE FORMER PRESIDENT OSAIN BOLT JOHN MAHAMA DISPLAYED GROSS IGNORANCE ON A DEEPER THOUGHT THROUGH THING LIKE THIS WASTING JERRY RAWLINGS TIME AT THE 31ST DECEMBER CELEBRATION.....MAHAMA WAS LIKE ,I DON'T UNDERSTAND ,I DON'T UNDERSTAND....WHAT AT ALL DOES MAHAMA UNDERSTAND.....EVEN HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY HIS BROTHER WAS TELLING HIM NOT TO RIDE A BICYCLE WITH SPOILT BRAKES SO YOU CAN IMAGINE....EVERYTHING HAVE ADVERSE AND DESIRED EFFECTS...WE CAN INTERROGATE THOSE THINGS
You criticise everything. The Eco has been on the drawing board for over 10 years. Ghana 'll not join it in the foreseeable future. It is a long process. Take your time to lay blame.
All is about chop chop, Akufo came just to make money and name. All this money will be stolen by him and his 126 ministers
When your staunch foot soldiers like these start asking you simple common sense questions like these then it’s over for you. The center cannot hold any longer!
The adoption of the regional currency like the ECO is process not an event, it will surely take some time before the countries involved can adjust to it, you need a total education on some of these issues, and not just being talkativ3
