Former President Jerry John Rawlings has announced that the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) has plans to establish a National Development Bank for their selfish gains.
Making this shocking revelation at the commemoration of the 31st December 1981 coup d’état in Winneba, the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) noted that this alleged bank, when operationalised, will cripple existing banks because it would favour fraudulent entrepreneurs which would in turn plunge the country into corruption just as it happened with the Ghana Commercial Bank in the old days.
While addressing the public, he said “I’m about saying something, maybe NPP will deny it. They intend to set up a National Development Bank. This National Development Bank I bet because they know the use to which Ghana Commercial Bank was put by a certain group of people in this country being part and parcel of them, they monopolised it, kept quiet and they have also decided that no, we will also decide to establish a National Development Bank under this leadership”.
But J.J Rawlings, being hopeful the establishment of this National Development Bank will serve its ‘right’ purpose, he stressed that “my prayer is that if or when they do, that it will not go down serving the selfish interest of fraudulent entrepreneurs as the Ghana Commercial Bank did in those days…but will rather serve the interest deserving and genuine entrepreneurs all of all this country irrespective of whichever tribe you belong to".
During the Acheampong regime in the 1980s, Ghana Commercial Bank was plunged into unimaginable corruption because it served as a hub of loans for some persons from a particular ethnic group who enjoyed huge sums of monies without paying back.
Though this horrifying situation happened under General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, the President at the time was left with no choice than to publish the names of GCB defaulters in a bid to resolve the situation.
In as much as Acheampong tried, Rawlings said, it still contributed a big deal to the triggering of the June 4, 1979, coup against the Supreme Military Council regimes led, first by Colonel I.K. Acheampong and later by General Akuffo.

JJ TO GHANA POLITICAL STABILITY IS LIKE SULEIMAN TO AMERICA MILITARY POWER.
JJ TO GHANA DEMOCRACY IS LIKE SOULMATE TO AMERICA MILITARY POWER.
The Iddioott ***barred word*** called Rawlings is better advised to keep his beak shut. You see if you overthrow a Regime and get the leaders shut by Military fire squad for corruption, then, you have in the faction committed yourself more to be shut when you abysmally fail in those virtues and principles. The SCM1 Administration was more successful than Rawlings's PNDC cum NDC. 'New Patriotic Party (NPP) has plans to establish a National Development Bank for their selfish gains' Mr. Rawlings, I don't want to believe that you underrate our President Nana Akufo-Addo so much as to stoop so low in your standards to under watch that in his Administration. These tactics of poisoning the public with toxic lies to create a tensed political landscape for coups and rigging of elections don't wash this time in Ghana. That past glory of the PNDC/NDC era does not apply anymore in Ghana today not under the watch of Nana. The more you tell the story in your way the more you expose yourself to questions you cannot answer as per your very low level of integrity.
PLEASE GHANA NEEDS TO MOVE FORWARD. LET'S HELP IT MOVE BY STRESSING MORE ON THE POSITIVES OF DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORTS AND STOP BEING PESSIMISTIC. copied I SECOND YOU BRA. IN FACT, GHANA DESERVES BETTER THAN WHAT WE ARE SEEING TODAY. THE DARK CLOUDS COVERING US MUST BE DONE AWAY WITH. WE MUST BE CERTAIN ABOUT DEVELOPMENT AND FORGE AHEAD TO BUILD A BETTER NATION WORTHY ENOUGH TO LIVE IN. CREATE, LOOT AND SHARE WOULD NOT HELP ANYBODY. RATHER, IT IS THE GENERATION YET UNBORN THAT WE ARE WORRYING. THE NEW GHANA AGENDA. GOD BLESS US AND HELP US TO BE FOCUS.
WHY SHOULD AFRIFA BE KILLED WAS IT FOR OVERTHROW OF NKRUMAH. WHY THEN SHOULD KOTOKA WHO UNDERTOOK THE SAME THE SAME EXPEDITION WITH AFRIFA IS HONORED WITH THE AIRPORT. AFRIFA WAS COLD MURDED OUT OF FEAR OF HIS COURAGE AND HATRED FOR HIS ASANTI IDENTITY. THE SAME THING WAS DONE TO YAW BOAKYE AND MANY OTHERS. JJ WILL BE THE LAST PERSON TO BE PUNISHED FOR HIS EVIL. NATURE NEVER IGNORE THE WICKEDNESS OF INDIVIDUALS TO GO UNPUNISHED. BOAKYE DJAN AND MANY OTHERS HAD GOT SOME PORTION OF THEIR PUNISHMENT FROM JJ THE VERY MAN THEY SUPPORTED IN HIS CRIME. AS IT IS ALWAYS PREDICTED IN MOVIES, KILLER BEWU LAST MINUTES. KILLER IS LAST TO TO BE ELIMINATED BEFORE THE SHOW ENDS. AND THAT IS JJ. NATURE, LAW OF KARMA NEVER FORGIVES EVEN WHEN SHOWED REMORSE. JJ IS A WALKING CRIMINAL WAITING FOR HIS SENTENCE FROM THE LAW OF NATURE.
The point I’m making here is that Gen. A.A. Afrifah was not part, as per Rawlings's narrative, the circumstance which triggered his coup. Thus, the brave Katakyie of good memory was then a civilian and neither was he part of SCM1 nor SCM2. Why then, should he grievously be executed by the military fire squad??? That is what beats my mind and I wish somebody with an informed explanation could educate me here about what I believe is illegal. Furthermore, I just can't understand why Gen. A.A. Afrifah was executed for the same course of which Gen. Kotoka to date is honored by naming the Ghana International Airport after him, thus KIA Ghana.
Rawlings at it again lying through his teeth without scruple, just like he did to justify all his coups. In principle, I abhor any form of Military Coup d et al. However, when a group of soldiers succeeds in their plot to overthrow a civilian regime they have no business to stay in power for a long period like the Rawlings case in Ghana. I believe he tries hard to justify this with Revolution, to make it look less adventurous as a mere group of Junior soldiers taking power from a Military Regime for their own personal ambition. Then, corruption since our Independence had been a problem for all Regimes including Rawlings's. Kotoka's Coup instated Military Regime which lasted for 3 years and handed over to Democratic elected Government. Now let us see the political circumstances that triggered both Military Coups whether they were justified. As I have said above the overthrow of SCM1 and SCM2 was out of self-interest group adventurous junior soldiers who planned to stage a coup for their own personal ambition. Otherwise, Rawlings would not be where he is today as per his merits. Now, Kotoka's Coup of which Katakyie was part. I would say the political atmosphere was very tensed and ripe for a change. Though, Nkrumah was a good politician, if you like, far ahead of his time. Pan-Africanist who was too ambitious at that point in time to lead Africa. Hence, he neglected Ghana for the Pan-African Course at the expense of Ghana. Ghana was then one Party State and very undemocratic. Indeed, there was at this point in time a typical picturesque political landscape ripe for Military intervention whether it was motivated by Nkrumah's political opponents or not.
Hahahahaha! amazing. Do we have laws that deal with fraud and those who will perpetrate fraud? From former President Rawlings analysis it means that the state should desist from embarking on any venture because every policy can have certain elements who can be scheming fraudulent behaviours.
Jerry this is wierd conjecture. It shouldnt come from a person like you who has ruled this country for 19 good years. The state has huge interest in ADB, NIB and GCB, are they doing something close to your suspicion?. The term "fra*u*d*ul*ent entrepreneurs" is amazing! Does it mean that Jerry is still obsess with the Ghanaian ability to create genuine jobs and make genuine income to boost development? I thought his mindset towards entrepreneurs in the late 1970s that culminated in the collapse of individuals businesses have been shelved, since it did not benefit anybody. But rather has followed us till today where we are now struggling to come up with the concept 'One District One Factory"
Where did u get that info from . if Nana takes a loan and pays back full with all interest paid, is hes the one who collapsed the bank, U talking about somethings u have no understanding of. that is why NDC can easily convince some people like u cos u are refusing to learn an acquire knowledge, maybe u wanted to talk about Ibrahim Mahama who was given almost all the net worth of UT as Loan to build his JATA Cement factory.
