Member of Parliament for Bantama Daniel Okyem Aboagye has denied going down on his knees to beg the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, to allow him go unopposed in the upcoming NPP parliamentary primary.
Reports emerged this week that the MP at a meeting with leadership of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region Sunday went down on his knees to plead the executives to allow him go unopposed in the 2020 elections.
The MP appears slighted by the media reports, has told TV3 that although he knelt down to plead, it was not to beg the regional chairman of the party who is popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi.
“I believe that story is a twisted one…it is a twisted story. Those who pushed that agenda are probably scared of what I’m doing,” he told our correspondent William Evans –Nkum on Thursday.
Mr Aboagye explained he rather knelt down to help Chairman Wontumi beg the NPP delegates to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo to be given a second term in the 2020 general elections in December.
“…When Chairman Wontumi was speaking, he said in case we have done anything wrong, he is apologising, begging the constituency in the name of God to forgive and let’s unite and make sure we can give four more years to the president. So he knelt down; he went on his knees and pleaded with the people.
“As the host MP, if you are smart, your regional chairman is begging them to give the president four more years…so when it got to my turn, I accepted the apology on behalf of the delegates, and I also knelt down in support of Chairman Wontumi to say that please delegates, regardless of what has happened, in case we have offended you in any way, please let us forgive ourselves and make sure we support President Akufo-Addo for four more years,” the Bantama MP explained.
Mr Aboagye further claimed that while he was pleading with the people to give the president another chance, he used the opportunity to do same for himself.
“While I was on my knees, I stretched my hand to Chairman Wontumi that I hear that some constituencies may go unopposed, in case you choose to pursue that, please remember us; our constituency too,” he stated.
According to him, “…I ended by saying that four more years for Nana, four more years for Okyem”
For the MP, he is confident in winning his constituency parliamentary primary, noting his hard-work and dedication to the constituency will pay off like before.
“Bantama we won under my leadership the highest percentage in the history of Bantama, 88.4% and that was because of a lot of hard work…” he boasted.

Black are forget things so soon. What has Akufo Addo done wrong. Some Ghanaians are ungrateful and can not access between good governance and bad one. No government can spoon speed people or share more, but we compare interventions. NPP will always reign supreme and above NDC. IF dumsor is a thing of the past, which did collapse small scale industies and other businesses, allowances are now paid to teachers, free SHS, Why would people like to vote for a party which do not have vision. Building infrastructures alone is not governance. Ghanaians should be wise and open thier eyes. NDC party leaders are weak to govern , greedy youngsters who has nothing to offer the country. They do not have foresight. Ghana, be wise and vote well.
What! My goodness ! So a common regional chairman couldn't kneel down but you a whole minister? OK. Then it shows how tough it is for npp to convince EVEN the delegates to vote for nana, how much more the people of Ghana? Be deceiving yourself that you're doing wonders for Ghana. ***barred word***
