The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as “sad, cruel and reprehensible” for President Akufo-Addo who promulgated the law (E.I 64), which has led to the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment of Pastors and other Ghanaians, to turn around and supervise the “flagrant violation of the same law by his party officials and members with impunity” during the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries over the weekend.
Per E.I.164 (No. 10), not wearing face masks in public is an offence punishable by law but NPP delegates, supporters and some parliamentary aspirants were seen over the weekend without nose masks in public while electing their candidates.
Social distancing was also absent as large crowds gathered to celebrate their winning candidates after the polls.
This has raised concerns about government’s commitment to the fight against COVID-19 and observance of the social protocols to keep the citizenry safe.
Speaking to this at a press conference held in Accra on Monday, 22 June 2020, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC noted that the actions of the governing NPP is: “unacceptable and abominable, particularly at a time church and mosque gatherings have been restricted to a maximum of 100 attendees and a duration of one hour, and at a time, Ghanaians who are found not to be wearing face masks are being subjected to all manner of degrading and inhumane treatment.”
According to him, “the recklessness and lawlessness displayed by the NPP during their just-ended Parliamentary primaries, coupled with the selective application of the law on COVID-19 preventive protocols by our law enforcement agencies, make the imprisonment of pastors and Ghanaians who were convicted for breaching public gathering restrictions under E.I 64, totally unjustifiable and unfair.”
“Actions they say, speak louder than words. The flagrant violation of COVID-19 precautionary protocols provided under E.I 64 by officials and members of the NPP and the President’s tacit approval of same, make nonsense of our collective fight against the dreaded coronavirus pandemic and shows that President Akufo-Addo and the NPP are not committed to Ghana’s COVID fight,” he added.
The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has raised similar concerns and called on the President to call the NPP activists to order and to ensure that justice and fair play is seen to be administered at all times to all Ghanaians irrespective of their political or social status.
GPCC said in a statement signed by its President Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso that: “If what happened over the weekend during the NPP parliamentary primaries is anything to go by, the Council and many right-thinking Ghanaians have no doubt to believe that the floodgates for flouting the law in the name of political activities has just been opened if action is not taken against those political activists who flouted the rules by bringing them to justice.”

NDC IS FULL OF HYPOCRISY. NDC INVADED A HOTEL THAT EC HAD A MEETING. THEY DID NOT PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING. THEY FLOCKED TO CID HEADQUARTERS ACCOMPANYING BERNARD MONAH, NO SOCIAL DISTANCING. THEY HOLD THEIR WEEKLY MEDIA ADDRESS INCLUDING THIS ONE WITH NO SOCIAL DISTANCING. THEY SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH THEMSELVES WHEN THEY ARE WRONG. FOR ANYTHING NPP JUBILATION AT ELECTION RESULTS CAN BE SAID TO BE UNPLANNED FOR. WE SHOULD be DISCERNING TO DIFFERENTIATE between WHAT IS SPONTANEOUS AND WHAT IS PLANNED TO TO BE EXECUTE AS RESISTANCE. I PITY SAMMY GHAMFI, A LAWYER. IN A CRIME THE CULPRIT MUST HAVE THE INTENTION TO COMMIT THE CRIME AND THEN DO IT. YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CALCULATED DEFIANCE AND SPONTANEOUS JUBILATION OF JOY. AFTER ALL FOR HOW OFTEN IS NPP PRIMARIES IN COVID SEASON AS COMPARE TO REGULAR GATHERING OF CHURCH MEMBERS FOR SERVICE. SMMY BE DISCERNING.
Whatever they ended Successfully and who are the Ghanaians these people are talking about? Ndc? Funny !tell your people not to wear the mask and they will be jailed ! Your desperation and frustration is nothing to the majority of the Ghanaian people everything is moving on smoothly and without ndc this covid-19 would have been eliminated ! Ndc is the real problem in Ghana ! Ndc is the root that must be uprooted in Ghana for peace and tranquility to prevail for Ghana to progress and prosper ! That can't be possible spirit in Ghana must be exorcised for dear Ghana to be free ! Thank God Ghanaians don't listen to the ndc but only their footsoldiers listen to them ! NDC IS NOT GOOD FOR GHANA !!
Meanwhile the COVID 19 testing figures in Ghana is very scary. Ghana is heading to 15, 000 positive tested and In the midst of these pandemic situation, NPP conducted its primaries over the week end withought adheering to the COVID 19 regulations. The NPP government and the COVID 19 Team is playing with or have taken the health of ghanaians for granted. Ghanaians are asking: Why still the closure of the ghanaian borders??? Your political party is able to conduct parlimentary primaries over the weekend in the midst of the rising coronavirus in Ghana. But our borders are still closed down. Ghanaians are still lockdown in various countries. And the condition of the government repartrition programe is very costly which many ghanaians cannot afford. The worse situation is the 14 days quaratine in three star hotels, which is also expensive. The Akufo-Addo government and the COVID 19 team is playing politics with the COVID 19 for their own political aspirations and ghanaians are scared of the daily rising and spreading of the virus. The global world is alarmed with the rise of the infestions in Ghana. If care is no ttaking, Ghana is heading to the same situation as in Brazil where tausend have died of the virus, COVID 19 out of political ignorance. Meanwhile the 2020 elections will depend on the assesment from ghanaians, on the following: a. the health of ghanaians in this COVID 19 period and how the Akufo-Addos government has so far poorly performed with the rise of the pandemic in that country. b. how ghanaians in diaspora wanting to come home have been treated with unwaranted costly of repatrition and by forced higly financial payment of 14 days quarantine. c. the borders closure, which is affecting many ghanaians, inside and outside the country, but your NPP Party has conducted its parliamentary primaries over the weekend without oberserving the COVID 19 regulations. From the above discussions, its obvious that, it will be very hard for the Akufo-Addos NPP to retain the seat. The party will not get it on smooth level as it happend in 2016. I am sorry but that is my oversation. Unless radical measures are taking immediately to arrest some situation in the country. Thank You
