The Central Regional Police Command has invited the Minister for Special Initiatives, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, after she confessed to have fired a gun at a registration centre at Kasoa on Monday.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Monring Show, DSP Irene Oppong, the Public Relations Officer of the Central regional Police Command said the Minister has been invited to help with investigations.
“She is a Member of Parliament and so there is a procedure to follow before you can invite her and so we are currently through that process to invite Hawa Koomson to help with investigation,” DSP Oppong hinted to host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Tuesday morning.
The MP has claimed she gave the warning shot to defend herself after feeling threatened while touring registration centres in the constituency Monday as some thugs on motorbikes surrounded her car.
“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn; my police escort had not started work yet. So, that is the modus operandi I engaged in his absence,” she told Accra-based Adom FM.
Call to resign
Meanwhile, Security Expert Prof Kwesi Aning has urged Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson as Minister of Special Development Initiatives to resign her position after she admitted firing a gunshot at a registration centre in Kasoa, claiming she cannot be trusted with the position.
“It is my hope that the President will ask Hawa Koomson to step aside or probably dismisses her,” the security expert called.
“Hawa Koomson has done her party, constituents, and certainly the good people of Ghana a great disservice,” Prof. Kwesi Aning.
His comment comes on the back of the Minister’s admission of firing gunshots at a voter registration centre in Awutu-Senya East Constituency in the Central Region.
He spoke to Joy FM's Evans Mensah on PM Express.

This is pure ***barred word***. If you know your life would be endangered without your security detail, why risk it. She must be sacked.
Since bob okala died nana addo and barwumia has taken over. It has affected even the police service led by oppong boadu. Oh, I forgot, he was appointed by nana addo. Someone has fired gun shots to disrupt civil exercise like voter registration and you are telling Ghanaians you just invited her? If you are not a bunch of comedians would you do this?
Is this Anning man still relevant
THE VIOLENCE AT KASOA AND OTHER PLACES ARE ALL ORCHESTRATED BY NDC. HOW MANY TIMES DID NOT THE TOP OFFICIALS OF NDC DECLARE THAT THERE COULD BE NO NEW REGISTRATION. THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE OF ALL THE THE VIOLENCE THAT THEY WERE PLANNING TO DISRUPT THE REGISTRATION. HOW MANY TIMES DID NOT NDC CLAIM THAT THERE WOULD BE BLOOD SHED. THEY KNEW OF WHAT THEY HAD PLANNED TO DO. THEY HAD DECLARED THEIR INTENTION IN VARIOUS FORUM AND THEY ARE EXECUTING THIS AGENDA. GHANA POLICE AND ALL WELL MEANING GHANAIANS SHOULD HOLD NDC ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY VIOLENCE AND ANY SOUL LOST DURING THIS REGISTRATION.
Some Professors are so incompetent and they talk like serial callers in this country or the Professor thinks his public judgement should work without the Professionals coming in. From day one of EC mandatory voters registration NDC as a party has beaten war drums till to day and still going so how can an MP feels threatened and stand to die from ssttupidd ndc hooligans? If the Police come out to confirm that it was not for self defence fine but no one should judge as if we are in the jungle
Why must she resign or be fired? She said she felt threatened and so she fired to protect herself as a matter of self-defense. Until there is an investigation that proves the contrary it is very wrong for Aning to be making such calls. Is Aning saying that if one is a Minister or an MP the one does not have a right to self-defense in the face of real threat? We were in this country when a DCE was killed at Nkwanta and and MP was killed in Accra. We should stop thinking that politicians do not have a life to protect. They also have flesh and blood and their families need them alive.
