Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare has been cautioned to 'choose his words' carefully following some comments he made on the banking sector.
According to media reports, Bishop Agyinasare during a virtual service wondered why locally-owned banks like uniBank, GN Bank, and UT Bank could not have been salvaged by the Bank of Ghana during its financial sector cleanup exercise.
“I have been asking myself: So, for Dr Kwabena Duffuor, under whose time as Minister of Finance, we had the best economic growth rate of 14 per cent, there was nothing we could do with his bank? What about Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, who introduced or expanded susu banking and had branches than any commercial bank with more customers? Then, my own Amoabeng, who helped me grow my money to my first $100,000, which I withdrew and gave out for the building of the Dome, as part of my contribution. Could nothing have been done to salvage some of these great institutions?” he queried.
This has however generated some criticisms.
Kweku Baako adding his voice to the debate said even though the Bishop does not engage in 'pastoral buffoonery' if he is going to talk politics, he should be 'prepared for some reactions'.
"....the banking sector reform. I think it's been brought to the front burner because of what Bishop Agyinasare said....I’ve admired him for a very long time but I have heard him making a lot of comments . . .the Pastor's intrusion came with all sorts of statements....without the backing of science, science meaning the evidence; something of evidential value, sentimentally I felt for about three banks. . .
"Pastor this, pastor that, if they want to talk politics they must be prepared for some reactions...they wrote somewhere about the creeping culture of silence in the country. Who is afraid to speak today? I just can't understand it.....they never lived under the culture of silence and regime of fear, they never did; so they don't understand. To say that there are people who are afraid to speak out in today's Ghana?...this pastor, he is all over the place. He (Agyinasare) is more decent than some of the others; he is not part of those I consider as fake; I don’t think he engages in pastoral buffoonery . . ." he said during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo'.

Pastor if you care to know many stimulus packages were given to these individuals you are talking about. Some used the money in the package to buy houses in overseas, other open additional bank to get customers deposit.Any help that even advanced countries gave to their banking industry during the meltdown and the banking crisis that swoop around the world. The man you described as your own man Amoabeng used most of the money to help his numerous girlfriends, ranging from Range rovers to houses, overseas trips for holidays and untold non banking activities. Dr Kwabena Duffour's son bought houses in Swiszerland, Ato Essien bought trucks and promised to Ghc 27m. I can go on and on. Please preach the word of God and leave this delicate banking issues to the experts.
you very very s*tu*p-id for you to have written this. You talked about someone repenting then you go ahead and kwas1aa kwa...If you did and understand economics, accounting and banking you will not come and open your KVIP toil..let mouth any how. Gye..mi fuoc..
I don't don't think kweku baako has the moral leverage to question anyone's integrity in this country. You don't even own your mouth. Kweku baako, you have sold your mouth to NPP and that is why you're forced to defend this criminaal act. The closure of Ghanaian banks is IMF and world Bank program and no Ghanaian should support This. The closure of indigenous banks has been an IMF program for more than a decade and it is only a heartlesss unpatriotic sons of Africa like bawumia and Nana addo who could do this to their own people. Now, kweku? Go and fork-your-self. Kweku! Repent and start looking for a proper job. This one stinkss
