Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta, has defended the Awutu Senya East MP over her shooting incident at a registration center in her constituency.
Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, who doubles as Minister for Special Development Initiatives, was spotted at the Step to Christ registration center at the Awutu Senya East in the Central Region firing gunshots.
Acccording to her, she took such action to protect herself from attacks from her opponents.
The Minister explained that she went to the registration center after being informed of an attempt by her opponent to bus unknown persons to register their names in the constituency but was compelled to trigger her gun when she felt her life was under attack by the political opponents.
Following her action, some civil society groups, political figures and commentators, and a section of the general public have called on her to resign while others have also appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to sanction her.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi described Hawa Koomson's actions as criminal.
“Section 198 of the criminal offences of Ghana 1960 act 29 section 189, 199, 200 downwards speaks about crimes against the peace of Ghana, rioting is a crime. What the woman has done is criminal, reprehensible, shameful, broth on our democracy and it cannot be defended.
“When she missed her target, she together with her gun-wielding thugs invaded the polling centre, burnt the motorcycles of innocent registrants and some party agents of the NDC...For a minister of state, a lawmaker to take the law into her own hands in that gangstar-rambo style, destroying property and distracting the exercise for the whole day that is criminal.''
Speaking on ''Kokrokoo'' on Peace FM, Yaw Buaben Asamoa asked what Hawa Koomson's crime is.
To him, there should be a cause for a woman to fire gunshots at a place like a registration centre.
He also cautioned the NDC not to pre-empt investigations by the Police, stressing Hawa Koomson deserves a hearing.
''What crime has Hawa committed? Have we concluded the investigations? How do you claim she is a criminal? Where from the big insults on her? Why can't they wait patiently for the findings? When she goes for the Police interrogation and she is found culpable, the Police can deal with her but what if the investigations check out that she was indeed telling the truth?'', he questioned.

It seems Buabeng Asamoah usually rents his ears out so he doesn't hear himself when speaking. The question is:- was Hawa Koomson under siege or attack when she fired the gun? A video evidence of the incident did not corroborate the account Hawa Koomson gave. 1. She said she went to the registration center alone in the early morning without being accompanied by security details. 2. She later said none of the security men who accompanied her carried gun. CONTRADICTION. 3. In the video, one could clearly see at least one security officer wielding gun. In another evidence, one could see only exchanges of words without any threat of attack or whatever except where suddenly, her gangsters started attacking NDC agents who were there to monitor the registration and burning their motorcycles. This is not an isolated case. It happening across all the registration centres with clear evidence of Police collaboration. They have succeeded in making Volta Region record low turnout all because of Police and military presence. All I can say to assure the NDC is when we lift up our hands in prayers and touch the Heavens, we shall surely change the Earth.
U never can hear yourself when u're talking traash. Is Hawa Koomson a police woman? Is she the one to address hoodlums?? NDC hoodlums were so afraid of her that they run off and allowed her to burn their motorbikes but she's the one who's scared for her life. So scared she loaded a gun from home and drove to the station without her police escort ?? I am scared for those renting her property. This unpredictable loose canon could wake up scared one day and defend herself against her tenants.
Was the woman expected to stand aloof and get attacked by the NDC thugs? Lets be fair to her. She went to registration the centre because of the info about the NDC thugs casuing mayhem there. Why is the NDC not talking about what their guys were doing there in the first place. If i had a legally registered gun and i was facing eminent threat to my person or my associates, i will be damned if i dont use the gun to defend. The MP did not just walk out of her car and started shooting as the NDC is making everybody believe. The NDC is a ***barred word*** entity and knows they have nothing better to tell Ghanaians but just to make enough noise so Ghanaians loose focus of real issues facing us as a people. The party so far has not told Ghanaians of any policy, program or inetervenion that they will action to improve the lives of Ghanaians, but they wake up everyday with some BS. If they keep playing "KILLER", they will meet their "RAMBO" period!!!!
Yaw Boabeng Asamoa "Chuck Norris" will definitely support Rambo. They are birds of same feather.
Yoo , when it is coming , it is doing. This action was unnecessary and will cause collateral damage to the party. We wait to see in December
If the woman is telling lies and those whose bikes were burnt are innocent how come none of them have come forward to claim ownership of the bikes, lodged complaints to the police for unlawful damage to their property or even sue the woman in tort. NDC are criminals. The intentionally create the problems to frame the innocent. Look at how they are all over the place calling the woman a criminal when they are the once who are wrong.
