Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama, has accused the NPP administration of engaging in “spirited linguistic acrobatics” to pat itself on the back even when it is crystal clear that the economy is in tatters.
According to him, despite the general lamentations by Ghanaians of worsening economic hardships amidst the unbridled fuel price increment, the Akufo-Addo led government has grown a penchant for singing a chorus of per statistical indicators, the country has strong economic fundamentals and is sure footed.
But "beyond these spirited linguistic acrobatic," the NDC flagbearer sought to point out that, "the plain truth which we all see and feel, is that the Ghanaian economy is in deep crisis."
Wrapping up his nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour with a public lecture on Wednesday, Mr Mahama indicted the current administration of "bastardisation and politicisation of state institutions, misguided priorities in economic management, heavy-handed governance, mounting corruption" among others.
The lecture, dubbed, ‘ThankGhana, Social Justice and A Sustainable Economy’, was held at the Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel in Accra.
The former President further asserted that the ruling NPP has not only failed to deliver on its numerous promises but has stagnated the growth of the economy through its actions and inactions.
“The most pressing problem is the impact of the ailing economy on livelihoods, prospects and dreams. The consequences of misguided priorities in economic management have led to unbearable hardship, high unemployment and the frustration and despair felt by millions of the youth.
“The others include the bastardisation and politicisation of state institutions. The mounting corruption, rising insecurity, abuse of power, lack of investment in critical infrastructure and abandonment of projects and heavy-handed governance,” he enumerated.

This man is too desperate for power! What offense has Ghana committed against him? He should note that even if NPP loses power (which will not happen anyway) it will never fall to the benefit of NDC (tofiakwa). Your misrule, wickedness, arrogance and disgusting display of opulence are too fresh in our minds! You are not in the race, please!
Mr former president who deceive you that alleviating hardship and poverty is the problem of the government alone. The money spent at the Kempinski Hotel could have been given to some people who are suffering. You do not organize this forum in a flamboyant style with your aides riding in V8 and posh cars and tell me Ghanaians are suffering under this government. I live in UK and work with the largest supermarket and I can confidently tell you the rise of prices of items. It cut across the whole world. That is not say if the government has a way of cushion the burden of the citizens, she should not do. Also I want the former president to put his alternatives on the table for the people to see him as a real alternative to the government.
MAHAMA IS SO DESPERATE TO BECOME A PRESIDENT AGAIN. BUT HE MUST FORGET. WHO WAS, AND STILL IS, CORRUPT THAN HIM AND HIS NDC COHORTS AND CORRABORATORS? WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YET OOO.
Why would and should the people of Ghana listen to the former President when he talks about corruption and mismanagement.? This is a Herculean task for president Mahama and the ndc because his leadership is still fresh to be interrogated. No wonder Ghanaians has rejected him twice unlike the president and President Atta Mills (blessed memory) who were attempting to become the president of Ghana.
GHANAIANS HAS NO TIME TO COMMENT ON MAHAMA AND HIS IGNORANCE WHY IS GHANA FOR HIM ALONE? CORRUPT MAN LIKE YOU WHY? FREE EDUCATION FOREVER
The present economy of ghana is much better than what your NDC government under your control left behind. How dare you comment on economic matters that you have no clue about? This V hypocrisy must stop! We know your abysmal record and have not forgotten yet, even though you think we have short memories….
