Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo for flying a commercial flight to the Dubai Expo 2020.
The North Tongu MP has in recent times chastised the president for flying in luxurious private jet on international assignments at the expense of the tax payer amidst the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s economy.
Ablakwa said Akufo-Addo’s gesture to fly First Class on Emirates has saved the Ghanaian taxpayer an impressive US$468,000.00. That is equivalent to a staggering GHC3,306,139.20.
“I sincerely applaud President Akufo-Addo for flying commercial to the Dubai Expo as he left Ghana yesterday,” Ablakwa posted on Facebook.
“When our elected officials finally exhibit good judgment, even if it took great struggle from us, we should be courageous and objective to acknowledge their penitent conduct.
“From our unimpeachable and impeccable tracking, this is the first time in at least a year, President Akufo-Addo has jetted out of the continent without using a profligate and sybaritic charter at profound expense to the suffering Ghanaian taxpayer,” it added.
The expo aims to forge new partnerships and inspire ground-breaking solutions across key industries worldwide. It also seeks to raise awareness about the worldwide issues that mankind faces. It provides several possibilities for networking and the promotion of international connections. Individual pavilions will be set up at Expo 2020, with countries exhibiting their unique cultures and technical innovations.
President Akufo-Addo will deliver a statement on “Ghana Day”, scheduled for 8 March 2022; hold bilateral talks on matters of mutual interest with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; participate in a Business Forum under the auspices of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC); and hold meetings with other investors interested in doing business in Ghana.
Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, and officials of the Office of the President and Foreign Ministry.
Akufo-Addo is scheduled to return to Ghana on Thursday (10 March).

Triviality and populism are the trademarks of the NDC in doing opposition politics. What the President wants to achieve in terms of promoting foreign investment in Ghana is being relegated to the background because it puts the President in the spotlight of positive engagements to serve the interest of Ghana. The NDC, on the other hand, professes to paint the President as bad for their parochial party interests to get him voted out. Apart from all this malicious politics, what does the NDC have in store for the good people of Ghana? That, but a very important political message, unfortunately falls short of the NDC. Whether this deficit in opposition politics is the result of incompetence or not, it is up to the good people of Ghana to build their opinion.
After flying luxurious jets for the umpteenth time and almost destroying Bawumia's chances for 2024 you are now going commercial. What this old man does not understand is that Ghanaians and indeed many people in the world vote base on emotions. And so no one cares if dumsor is gone or there is free SHS now. if people perceive you as not concerned about the plight of the poor in Ghana because you keep flying luxurious jet, that is what will direct their votes. In any case what will flying a luxurious jet do to you. In future you can brag that you flew a luxurious jet, and so what? has that make taller or will that make you live longer? The day that you so called leaders learn that happiness is not derived riches and luxurious things, that day is when Ghana will start developing, because it is only then that corruption and all sorts of wicked scheming to for example reject the e-levy and profligate use of tax payers money will stop. I entreat Ghanaian leaders to do introspection and become conscious of your being not the self. Humble yourselves like Bawumia. Humble yourselves like children.
