Former President John Mahama’s continued criticisms of the Nana Addo-led government entered a new phase with a public lecture dubbed ‘Ghana at a crossroad’ on Monday, May 2, 2022.
Among other pressing issues, the former NDC flagbearer accused the Akufo-Addo government of engaging in unparalleled cronyism and nepotism.
According to him, the then NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo canvassed on deceit to win the highest office of the land.
Mr Mahama claimed years after winning the presidential election, President Nana Addo now appears bereft of ideas to execute his ‘heaven on earth’ promises.
“The NPP government came into office in January 2017 on the back of mouthwatering promises of an almost instant transformation of our country . . . An assessment of our current conditions shows that what is happening bears very little or no resemblance to what was promised.”
“Over the last several months, our political space and societal reactions have been dominated by discussion on the challenges of introducing even more taxes. These conversations have taken place against the backdrop of unparalleled cronyism, nepotism and breaches of the basic tenets of conflict of interest, transparency and accountable government and misplaced spending by the president and his inner circle,” he said during his Ghana at a crossroad lecture
Mr Mahama, further said the current state of the country gives no hope to the citizenry
“The painful epiphany is that, in Ghana today, the frustrations of the Ghanaian people are at an all-time high. We are at a crossroads that is acutely complicated by the doubts and fears of our next generations in the face of a future that carries no expectations of success in their lives. For most Ghanaians, the feeling of despondency and hopelessness is real and personal. It is exacerbated by the growing trend of inequality and lack of upwards social mobility,” he said.

Mr former president, seventeen of your brothers held positions in your government. The one who was at Forestry commission managed to cut and export over fifty thousand teak trees meant for electrification to Brazil. The amount involved never returned to the shores of Ghana. Bring yourself and you will smell alligator pepper. What about the bauxite you signed for your brother 8 days to your handing over. The value of the bauxite is $650 billion. It is better you shut your mouth, as silent is golden. Very soon people will start talking about the Guinea fowl scandal,GEEDA, Bus branding, Isofoton, Embraer plane, Papano, number one gentleman, $5 miilion bribe,MASLOC, IMFetc.
