The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that government will soon reintroduce road tolls.
According to the Minister, there will be collection of tolls specifically on the Accra-Tema motorway when completed.
He revealed this in his presentation of the mid-year budget in Parliament on Monday, July 25, 2022.
Speechifying before the House, the Minister stated; "The Government of Ghana has made a strategic decision, in line with the Public Private Partnership Act, 2020 (Act 1039) to procure the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project through GIIF with a mandate to deliver a GIIF-led PPP financing
solution, where maximum funds are raised from the market, but majority ownership of the project remains with GIIF on behalf of the Ghanaian Government."
Shedding more light on the reinstalling of the road tolls, the Minister emphasized that "the completed road will be tolled to recover the whole life cost of the completed infrastructure as well as pay lenders and provide a return for equity investors".
"The draft Concession Agreement (CA) between GIIF and MoRH is currently under review by GIIF, MoRH, the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Finance. When completed, the CA is expected to be approved by the PPP Committee, Cabinet and Parliament...The Government of Ghana shall provide funding through GIIF to take equity in the Special Purpose Vehicle to be created by GIIF for the project", he expounded.

Hahahaaaa, now they are back to their senses. Nobody complained of payment of road tolls, the roads minister wakes up one morning and decided to suspend payment of road tolls, not ashamed of himself he comes back to say without E-levy road contractors cannot be paid. No driver can avoid payment of road tolls once you get to a toll booth, if you drive past without paying the police can arrest you legally. But if i don't send money electronically i won't pay for E-levy and that will be legal. Now between the two which one is more reliable? If another government comes to power and dicides to sue the roads minister for willfully causing financial loss to the state, people will say it's political witch hunting. How come that in Ghana people lose their senses when they enter politics. In opposition they have all the solutions to the country's challenges, in government they behave as if they have never seen the 4 walls of a classroom. Today you are bringing back the payment of road tolls, so what was the thinking at the time of its suspension? Which particular tax were going to use to fund road projects. However small a tax is continue collecting, is the roads minister not aware of the slogan of the GRA, i.e. Little drop of taxes make a mighty nation. It's not surprising though. When you have a bunch of confused people coming together, they can do anything. The head itself is confused , what do you expect of the tail. Tweeaaaaa DCE didn't see this and said Tweeeaaa. He should come back and see proper Tweeeeaaaa
