John Dramani Mahama, the recently re-elected 2024 flagbearer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded to a call on him by Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), to stop accepting ex-gratia payments from the state.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme last week Nana Akomea said he would demonstrate in his stance on abolishing ex-gratia when Mahama returns to power.
"So, you, President Mahama, today if you claim you don't believe in the ex-gratia, the ones that you have taken, we know that you have spent it already, so we can't say that go and bring it . . .but the challenge I am giving to him is that the ones he will be taking from this month May, he shouldn’t take it, he should stop taking the ex-gratia, the same way Togbe Afede stopped and returned his own, he should follow the same principle," he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh that the ex-president was receiving ex-gratia.
Mahama responding to Akomea in a Twitter post on Friday said he receives a monthly pension and not ex-gratia as Nana Akomea claimed.
"My friend Nana Akomea. Really sad what politics can do to a fine mind! I don't take ex-gratia. I receive a monthly pension," John Mahama tweeted.

The alternative is scary! No deep thinking. We can't have a shallow-minded leader lead us!
Mr Mahama, did you look in the mirror before spewing this out?. Your intergrity is at stake so please think before you speak. Before you contradict yourself as you have no legacy as a statesman.
Why do you take pension when you are not on pension? What money can do to an otherwise fine man.
This clearly shows how Mahama lacks critical thinking skills. He speaks before thinking and ends up exposing himself as a shallow-minded person. You take a monthly pension from the state, yet you are seeking to be employed again by the same state. Sometimes it is better to keep quiet.
Is the pension not part of the ex-gratia? What type of ex-gratia is Mahama talking about?
If ex-president Mahama own a company and one of his workers goes to pension and receives his pension payment every month and the same person presents his application for employment on the same job he retires, will he Mahama employ that person? And how is he going to pay him ? As a pensioner or new employee? Common sense should tell Mahama that he is not the only knowledgeable person in Ghana and ndc as a party. Ghanaians are going to reject him again in 2024. Is better he advise himself because Ghanaians know how corrupt he is, very greedy politician.
hmmmm.... If Ex- President Mahama says it is pension he is receiving why is He asking to be voted for as President. He should enjoy his pension days wai.
